Colt DCS expands into Indian market with hyperscale facility

The brand says that the launch of its hyperscale data centre in Navi Mumbai will contribute to the region’s digital transformation

A provider of sustainable design, build, delivery and operational management of hyperscale data centres across Europe and APAC has expanded into the Indian market following the announcement of its new facility in Navi Mumbai.

Colt Data Centre Solutions (DCS) delivers data centre solutions to hyperscale and large enterprise customers, which allow its customers to plan effectively for the growth of their business, knowing that their data centre strategy is ready for the demands of tomorrow.

With more than 25 years of experience in the industry, it puts environmental awareness at the heart of its operations and is taking ownership to reduce its environmental impact globally and make sustainability a key strategic driver.

The new facility is Colt DCS’ first investment in the region, with future expansions expected in the coming years.

The Indian hyperscale data centre market

According to CBRE, the Indian data centre industry is anticipated to reach US$4.5bn by 2025, with it also reported to be on track to reach 1.318GW by 2024, growing to 1.4GW by 2025.

Navi Mumbai - a planned city adjacent to Mumbai on India’s west coast - accounts for half of the country’s data centre capacity.

Pratap Mane, Country Head of India at Colt DCS, said: “We are now uniquely placed in the Mumbai market to address the demand of Hyperscale Cloud Service providers and large Enterprise particularly from Banking and Financial Services industry. Our solutions are designed to support complex applications requiring scalable power, processing, cooling and security.

“The first phase of the Mumbai Data Centre has commenced with 22MW and an available capacity of 18MW of IT power capacity. Further, we have aggressive plans to expand into major cities across India to cater to growing market demand.”

“Colt DCS' entry into the Indian market reaffirms our commitment to become the leading customer-centric data centre operator in the industry,” Niclas Sanfridsson, CEO of Colt DCS added. “Our strategic expansion is only set to continue with new sites expected across the country as we look to provide high quality data centre services.”

Situated on a land parcel spanning 15 acres, the site has capacity to support 120MW of IT power and is poised to adapt to meet the evolving demands of emerging technologies like AI, high-performance computing, and ML. The flexibility the site offers is supported by robust infrastructure, with a highly resilient 220kV GIS substation onsite with LILO configuration.

India Green Building Council (IGBC) awarded the Navi Mumbai Colt DCS facility with a platinum rating thanks to its sustainability credentials, which Colt DCS says further underpins its commitment to sustainability and innovation. The operator draws 100% renewable green power, which, along with the platinum certification, backs its global environmental responsibility and will ensure its customers achieve their own sustainability goals.

It has also been acknowledged regarding its safety implementations with certification from Safety Excellence Award from the Safety Engineers Association (SEA).
