STACK expands into one of APAC’s fastest-growing markets

STACK Infrastructure’s APAC arm has opened its first data centre in Melbourne, Australia, marking a milestone in STACK’s ongoing global expansion

A leading data centre operator and partner to some of the most innovative companies worldwide has completed its first data centre in the APAC region.

STACK Infrastructure’s 36MW facility, strategically located on a scalable 72MW campus in Melbourne, Australia, is in one of APAC’s fastest growing markets for cloud service providers and large enterprises needing robust power, reliability, and scalability.

STACK is set to add more facilities to its APAC portfolio, including in Tokyo, Osaka, and Seoul.

STACK’s expansion into APAC

“We are proud to celebrate the opening of our first data centre in Asia Pacific within the high growth hyperscale corridor of Melbourne,” Preet Gona, CEO of STACK APAC said. “This first delivery, of many in Asia Pacific, underscores the harmony between STACK’s deep regional delivery expertise and its proven global development capabilities.”

The announcement of the new facility complements STACK’s core mission of empowering cloud service providers and innovators with optionality to meet growth targets across the Americas, Asia Pacific, and EMEA.

Among the brand’s other ongoing projects is a planned five-building data centre campus offering 250MW of scale in Central Phoenix with a dedicated on-site substation, a 200MW campus in Portland spanning 55 acres, with 96MW currently available for leasing and a centrally located 84MW hyperscale data centre campus in Frankfurt.

STACK, owned by IPI Partners, entered the Australian market last year after taking over three development projects owned by Hickory. It rebranded to STACK Infrastructure in 2019 following the move and has since provided scalable space and power to some of the most well-known hyperscalers.

STACK’s growth elsewhere across the globe

Elsewhere, STACK’s growth in EMEA is exponential. It started operations in the region in March 2022, uniting STACK’s operations and development capabilities across the Americas, EMEA and Asia Pacific regions in a bid to pair deep local and regional expertise with global reach and scale to serve the unique needs of global hyperscale and enterprise clients.

Like with STACK data centres worldwide, EMEA has focused on ensuring all of its facilities run on 100% renewable energy.

With former Chief Strategy Officer, at NTT GDC John Eland at the helm, the division has boomed with not only the more than two decades of Eland’s experience in support, but that of its diverse workforce, with the division addressing the industry’s skills gap by enhancing their team with external talent.
