Wipro has announced that it will migrate automotive solutions company Marelli’s Milan data centre to cloud infrastructure
Technology services provider Wipro extends partnership with automotive solutions company Marelli in four-year infrastructure modernisation deal

As the realm of vehicle technology surges ahead, automotive manufacturers are thrust into the position of accelerating their digital transformations to match pace. This pressing need is heightened by demands for increased agility within supply chains and the urgent requirement to modernise old IT setups. Indeed, data centre operations, crucial for supporting both manufacturing and design processes, find themselves at the forefront of this evolutionary step.

In a significant development, Wipro, a provider of technology services globally, is set to shift Marelli's Milan-based data centre over to a cloud infrastructure. This transition is part of a four-year continued partnership extension with the automotive solutions corporation and represents a pivotal shift from on-premises computing to more flexible, cloud-based operations.

By the numbers
  • 4: Years in new contract extension
  • 65: Countries where Wipro operates
  • 230,000: Wipro employees and business partners globally

This strategic update to Marelli's infrastructure by Wipro will utilise the FullStride Cloud platform, ensuring not only the Milan data centre is moved to the cloud but also the various regional server facilities. This move is a component of a larger infrastructure modernisation programme designed to streamline processes and shorten the time to market for new products.

This modernisation enables Marelli to adapt swiftly to the dynamic requirements in the automotive sector, where the speed of product evolution demands that suppliers and manufacturers be fleet-footed and responsive.

Wipro enhances Marelli's operational efficiency with AI

Within this transformative project, AI technology plays a crucial role. Wipro is set to deploy AI-powered virtual assistants aimed at enhancing Marelli's employee support services. These virtual assistants are designed to manage routine requests and questions, significantly easing the workload on human staff.

This integration of AI not only speeds up the response time for technical support queries but also introduces a new, automated approach to traditional IT support methodologies. Furthermore, vulnerability management services will be incorporated into the framework to monitor and mitigate any potential security threats across the cloud systems, while Wipro ensures the stability of these applications through continual maintenance.

Graziella Neuvéglise, who holds the position of Regional Head & Managing Director for Southern Europe at Wipro and also serves as the Executive Sponsor for Marelli, shares her enthusiasm about the developments: "We are excited to begin a new chapter in our strategic partnership with our trusted partner, Marelli. Our wide-ranging expertise alongside our deep understanding of their needs means we will deliver a modernisation program specifically tailored to their needs."

The partnership takes a comprehensive approach by not only migrating to a centralized data management system but also enhancing scalability and consistency across Marelli's global operations. This centralised data handling method promises quicker rollouts of system updates and modifications, improving operational efficiency.

Benefits of transitioning to cloud-based infrastructures

One marked advantage of this shift to cloud computing involves substantial cost reductions concerning resource management. Physical data centres require elaborate setups including maintenance of servers and cooling systems; transitioning to cloud infrastructure eliminates these needs, thereby cutting down operational costs. This not only creates a leaner operational model but also fosters a more robust environment for continuous improvement initiatives in Marelli’s offerings.

In addition, the flexible nature of cloud services allows Marelli to scale its resources up or down based on its real-time needs, replacing the rigidity of traditional fixed-capacity data centres.

Vittorio Rossetti, Marelli's Chief Digital Officer, comments on the collaboration: "We have a long-standing partnership with Wipro. Over the years we have worked with them, the Wipro team has developed an in-depth understanding of our business, which combined with their technical expertise, will help us further develop and grow our IT infrastructure."
