The investment is expected to create new jobs and facilitate data centre growth
ABB recently announced a US$120m US investment to expand production capacity of its low voltage electrification products, boosting growth potential

Investment in two US manufacturing sites by ABB aims to support expected growth in mission-critical industries, which includes data centres, buildings and utilities.

US$120m has been pledged by the company to expand US manufacturing, specifically boosting the production capacity of its low voltage electrification products. The investment is designed to enable ABB to meet surging demand from customers in growth industries and is expected to create new jobs at manufacturing facilities in the process.

Key facts
  • US$80m investment in Selmer, Tennessee: 50 new jobs to be created
  • US$40m investment in Senatobia, Mississippi: 200 new jobs to be created
  • US$500m - ABB’s total investment in the US over the past three years

“Demand is increasing steadily for advanced electrification technologies, driven by growth in key sectors including data centers and utilities,” explains Morten Wierod, CEO at ABB. “Today’s announcement will support our future growth in the US, ABB’s largest global market.”

Supporting local investment

As part of the commitment, ABB is also investing US$80m to build a new, 320,000 sq ft facility in Selmer, Tennessee.

Replacing existing operations in ABB Selmer is expected to increase production capacity by more than 50% and will produce essential electrical distribution equipment for large-scale industrial and technology-driven facilities. This includes data centres, factories and high-rise residential and office spaces, where high-quality power is critical.

Likewise, ABB’s busway and bus plug products are designed to help businesses simplify their power distribution and will aim to deliver seamless expansion or reconfiguration without the need for extensive rewiring.

The new facility, expected to open in Q4 2026, will add 50 new skilled jobs, which ABB says will increase its Selmer workforce by more than 25%.

In Senatobia, Mississippi, ABB will invest US$40m to double its footprint at the facility. This is specifically to meet increasing demand for advanced low voltage circuit breakers from customers across North America.

ABB’s industrial circuit breakers are expected to provide a higher power reliability that is essential for data centre expansion, advanced manufacturing facilities and renewable energy microgrids

The company says that expanding production will support booming demand from customers across North America who are upgrading their aging power infrastructure and expanding their operations.

When the new facility opens in Q2 2026, the 200 new jobs will increase the workforce in the Senatobia facility to more than 1,000.

Morten Wierod, CEO at ABB

Morten adds: “Our new facilities in Selmer and Senatobia will keep our US customers at the cutting edge of the energy transition, and help them meet their performance, productivity and energy efficiency goals.”

How ABB is growing its data centre commitments

In the past three years, ABB has invested more than US$500m in its US business, including opening a new US$100m manufacturing facility and innovation laboratory for industrial electric drives in New Berlin, Wisconsin in October 2024.

Key facts
  • US$9bn ABB US revenue (2024)
  • 40 manufacturing, distribution and operational facilities
  • 9 major R&D centres
  • 80% of ABB products are manufactured in the US

Additionally, the company is opening a new US$40m factory in Albuquerque, New Mexico in April 2025, specifically designed to manufacture the latest technologies for power grid hardening and resilience.

With an ‘always on’ ethos, ABB remains eager to support data centres scale or speed up their operations to deliver the next era of digital solutions.

Its new sites not only showcase the latest technologies, but are prioritising sustainable operations to bring together ABB’s digital and renewable energy solutions to increase energy efficiency and reduce emissions.
