NTT DATA Celebrates Earth Day with Sustainability Strategies

For Earth Day, NTT DATA has launched its new corporate sustainability strategy, with three pillars focused on Prosperity, Planet and People

For Earth Day, NTT DATA has unveiled a new corporate sustainability strategy, built on three pillars to uphold sustainability across the business.

Earth Day is the world's biggest environmental movement marked each year by a collective call to action and the theme this year is "Planet vs Plastics".

Since plastic was introduced in the 1950s, it is estimated that 8.3bn metric tonnes of plastic has been produced. Yet 79% of that has been used and discarded. While rotting in landfill or polluting the sea, the plastic breaks down, releasing tiny toxic particles into the soil and the sea, which are then ingested by wildlife and make their way into the food supply chain for humans.

NTT Data aims to step in and reduce this impact.

Sustainability at NTT Data

The three pillars of NTT Data’s corporate sustainability strategy are:

Pillar One: Prosperity

The potential for business and society to grow by using 100% sustainable services and solutions in the end-to-end NTT DATA value chain. The goal is to build 100% of NTT Data’s revenue from sustainable-by-design services and products by 2035.

Pillar Two: Planet

NTT Data wants to transform industries for good, using services and solutions in new ways that help to regenerate the planet. NTT Data aims to deliver net-zero emissions across its data centres by 2030, across its facilities by 2035 and across its value chain by 2040.

One such method is to utilise 3D printing - such as the world's first 3D printed data centre.

Pillar Three: People Positive

This pillar helps NTT Data to build a better world for everyone, by deploying NTT DATA's digital capabilities to support the livelihoods of communities across the world and contribute to creating a more diverse, equitable and inclusive society.

NTT Data leads sustainable change, by example

“On 1st April, we heralded the start of a new era with the coming together of NTT Ltd. and NTT DATA under the NTT DATA banner as a global business and technology services powerhouse,” heralded David Costa, Chief Sustainability Business Officer for NTT Data. “Now the company has created a unique market proposition, the Sustainability Business Office, marking the beginning of a new era.”

By uniting Corporate Sustainability and Sustainability Business Development, NTT Data will lead by example in improving its own sustainability performance through net-zero emissions, engaging its people and using its technology to solve our sustainability challenges.
