12 Days of Data Centre Christmas: June 2024
Elon Musk partnered with Dell and Supermicro to provide the server racks to house his greatly anticipated supercomputer, for his AI startup xAI.
Dell's server racks are designed to organise servers, networking equipment and other components in data centres. The company was set to assemble half of the server racks for xAI's supercomputer, as confirmed by Musk on X: "Dell is assembling half of the racks that are going into the supercomputer that xAI is building."
Complementing Dell's contribution is Supermicro, a company renowned for its close ties with chip manufacturers like Nvidia and its innovative liquid-cooling technology. Supermicro's involvement was also acknowledged by Musk, highlighting the significance of their role in this potential ground-breaking project.
Dell and Supermicro bring extensive experience and expertise to the table, having been at the forefront of providing server solutions for large-scale computing projects worldwide.
Dell has been a trusted supplier of servers and data centre infrastructure for decades, powering many of the world's largest cloud computing platforms and supercomputing facilities, such as the Frontera supercomputer at the Texas Advanced Computing Center.
Equally, its partnership with AI chip giant Nvidia also holds sway. Posting on X the same day as Musk’s announcement, Dell CEO Michael Dell said: “We’re building a Dell AI factory with Nvidia to power Grok for xAI Elon Musk.”
New AtlasEdge CEO: Who is Tesh Durvasula?
AtlasEdge, a leading pan-European edge data centre provider, appointed Tesh Durvasula as its new CEO earlier in 2024.
As a digital infrastructure and data centre veteran, Tesh brought with him more than 25 years of experience across development, finance, sales, marketing, and real estate. He will succeed current AtlasEdge CEO, Giuliano Di Vitantonio, who will transition to the role of Board Chairman.
With his commitment to the data centre industry, Tesh is well-positioned to harness his extensive experience to drive company growth at AtlasEdge.
Capitalising on industry growth
Tesh has served in a broad range of leadership and value creation roles throughout his career, having most recently served as the CEO of Africa Data Centres. Prior to this, he spent a decade at leading data centre company CyrusOne, where he rose to become company President and CEO.
His work has seen him successfully lead organisations through rapid periods of growth and transformations. As a result, he has had a heavy hand in developing highly skilled and successful teams within leading organisations.
“The rising tide of customer demand makes this a prime time to invest in edge data centre markets, and AtlasEdge is perfectly positioned to continue capturing this demand and become the continent’s leading platform,” Tesh said at the time of his appointment.
“I can’t wait to get started and look forward to working closely with our shareholders, DigitalBridge and Liberty Global, building on the extraordinary momentum the industry has seen over the last several years.”
