Construction Begins for AQ Compute’s Barcelona Data Centre

The 60 MW data centre & research campus AQBCN1 in Barcelona, Spain.
AQ Compute has started the construction of its new data centre in Barcelona, AQ-BCN1, a 60 MW campus, which will be AI-ready & run on 100% renewable energy

AQ Compute has started construction work on its second data centre, in Parc de l’Alba (Cerdanyola del Vallès) in Barcelona. 

Based in Hamburg, Germany, AQ Compute is a provider of colocation data centres with a clear focus on sustainability. Its first data centre site outside of Oslo, Norway, commenced commercial operations in February 2024 and the company is investigating further expansion across Europe. 

AQ Compute’s data centres are AI-ready

AQ Compute provides flexible and modular colocation data centres for metropolitan areas. Its data centres are AI-Ready and suitable for compute, storage and GPU applications.

AQ-BCN1 is:

  • Compliant with AI requirements
  • Run on 100% renewable energy 
  • Offers 24/7 remote hands services available
  • The 60 MW data centre campus will also have a training, innovation and R&D centre available. Cooling for high density racks will also be provided.

AQ Compute is working with PQI, a 70/30 joint venture between PGI Data Centers and PQC, as the design partner. The construction work will be carried out in partnership with GSE, as the general contractor.

AQ Compute & net zero AI

Elsewhere in its work, AQ Compute is harnessing the power of AI technology to drive innovation. Originating from its key partner, Aquila Group, the company has recently completed its first site, AQ-OSL1, in Hønefoss, Norway, as part of its mission to deliver Net Zero AI. In order to develop AI whilst keeping a low carbon footprint, AQ Compute has partnered with leading sustainable GPU cloud company, NexGen Cloud, as part of its mission to deliver the first AI Supercloud in Europe. The project will train large-scale AI foundational models in a green and sustainable way.
