DataBank to Build US$256m Data Centre, it’s Eighth in Dallas
DataBank is planning to build a US$256m data centre in Dallas, Texas, which will be the colocation leaders’ fifteenth data centre in Texas. The new facility, DFW9, will span more than 425,000 sq ft (40,000 sqm) and will be designed by JHET Architects.
DataBank is a leading provider of enterprise-class data centre, cloud and interconnection services, offering customers availability of data, applications and infrastructure.
DataBanks’s data centre expansion
DataBank’s facilities provide uninterrupted access to customer data, applications and IT equipment. Its services provide business solutions for corporate enterprises, including hybrid cloud services, customised IT deployments, and industry compliance, to meet the outsourcing needs for IT management, maintenance and operations.
The company serves a wide range of customer verticals, including media and content distribution, cloud infrastructure providers and telecom networks.
The company has centres in Dallas, Minneapolis, Kansas City, Cleveland, Pittsburgh, Salt Lake City and Atlanta – managing or operating major network facilities in each of these regions.
Construction of the DFW9 data centre is due to begin in September 2024 and aims to be finished in early 2027.
DataBank already runs seven data centres in Dallas, which have a combined IT capacity of 33.3MW, with the flagship DFW3 facility providing 13.5MW, across 16 acres in Plano.
The new data centre build comes after DataBank secured a US$725m credit facility in April. The new capital is reportedly going to fund further expansion.
Meanwhile, JHET Architects is also designing a 126,000 sq ft (11,700 sqm) facility for CyrusOne, a leading global data centre developer. Construction is due to begin in January 2024 and will end in September 2025.
Leadership at DataBank highlights enterprise, hyperscale and AI customers as the reason for increased data centre demand
DataBank was recognised by Deloitte as one of the fastest growing technology companies in the US, having demonstrated a 234% growth.
Raul Martynek, CEO of DataBank, credits the increased demand to its enterprise, hyperscale and AI customers. Raul also attributes DataBank’s 234% revenue growth to the company’s ability to meet this rise in demand with strategic land investments and infrastructure innovations.
“Over the past year, DataBank delivered exceptional results and consistently surpassed expectations,” he says. “The investments we’ve made to expand our geographic footprint to more than 27 markets and develop a more flexible data hall design have allowed us to match the increased demand for data centres over the past three years.”
In our Top 10: Construction Leaders in the Data Centre Industry, we included Toni Qorri, Vice President of Construction at DataBank.
