Colt DCS is engaging in renewable energy procurement and energy efficiency initiatives
Colt Data Centre Services (DCS) has reached 90% renewable energy procurement across its global portfolio, marking an 8% increase from the previous year

The hyperscale and enterprise data centre provider has published its third annual sustainability report detailing performance metrics for 2024. Already operating 13 data centres across Europe and Asia-Pacific (APAC), Colt DCS currently has 19 facilities under development.

During 2024, Colt DCS added operational sites in Osaka Keihanna, Japan and Mumbai, India, whilst maintaining its environmental targets.

Absolute greenhouse gas emissions across Scopes 1, 2, and 3 decreased by 32% compared to the 2019 baseline year, the company says. Likewise, it has achieved zero Scope 2 market-based emissions through complete renewable electricity procurement.

Its Scope 3 emissions, representing 98% of the total carbon footprint in 2024, also fell by 26% against the baseline.

Colt DCS maintains EcoVadis sustainability ranking

Retaining its EcoVadis Platinum score for the third consecutive year, Colt DCS now places within the top 1% of assessed organisations for environmental, social and governance (ESG) performance.

This achievement came alongside recognition at the Data Center Solutions Awards, where Colt DCS received the Best Colocation Provider Sustainability Innovation of the Year award.

The company achieved such a high ranking by diverting 95% of waste from landfill at its London North facility. Additionally, 91% of suppliers by emissions have established science-based climate targets. New facility designs incorporate renewable electricity supply and high-efficiency cooling systems, with waste heat recovery where local infrastructure permits.

Decarbonising business at Colt DCS:
  • 95% of waste diverted from landfill at London North (UK).
  • 91% of suppliers by emissions have science-based climate targets in place.
  • Striving to design all new facilities with renewable electricity supply, high energy efficient cooling systems and, where local infrastructure allows, waste heat recovery.

Overall, Colt DCS is targeting a 90% reduction in absolute Scope 1, 2 and 3 emissions from 2019 levels by 2045.

The strategy centres on maintaining complete renewable electricity procurement, deploying sustainable data centre infrastructure and reducing embodied carbon in new developments.

RMZ infrastructure partnership to expand Indian operations

The company launched a joint venture with RMZ Infrastructure in India during 2024, accelerating growth in high-demand markets. This partnership supports Colt DCS expansion plans across the Asia-Pacific region.

Employee satisfaction metrics improved within the company, with 87% of staff recommending Colt DCS as a workplace – increasing from 83% in 2023. The company also introduced its Employee Value Proposition and deployed an AI-powered learning platform called MyLearningHub for professional development programmes.

Security certifications include ISO 27001 and SOC 2 Type II, addressing infrastructure protection requirements. Colt DCS implemented a dedicated Risk Policy & Procedure, incorporating Climate Change Risk Register assessment alongside country-specific and function-specific risk registers.

The company also developed risk registers across support functions and operations during 2024.

Connecting People:
  • The company launched the DCS Employee Value Proposition (EVP) and introduced the award winning, AI powered “MyLearningHub” to support continuous learning and professional development.
  • 87% of employees recommend Colt DCS as a great place to work (up from 83% in 2023).

“For Colt DCS, 2024 was a year of significant growth. When we started our hyperscale journey nine years ago, the cloud market was US$111bn,” says Niclas Sanfridsson, CEO of Colt DCS.

“Today, it is over US$760bn and is projected to grow even further due to the rising demand in streaming, cloud and AI tools and services.”

The cloud infrastructure market expansion has driven demand for data centre capacity across multiple regions. Colt DCS entered the hyperscale sector when cloud services represented a fraction of current market value.

“I’m especially proud that we were able to help our customers scale and accelerate during this time of transformation by staying true to our core values: trust, respect, unite, sustain and trailblaze,” says Niclas.
