Iceotope is a leader in Precision Liquid Cooling, which captures almost 100% of heat generated by data centres. CEO David Craig is to retire in September

Iceotope has announced the retirement of CEO David Craig, effective from 30th September 2024. The company will be led jointly by Chief Commercial Officer Nathan Blom and Chief Financial Officer Simon Jesenko, until the appointment of a successor. Till then, David will continue to advise Iceotope and provide assistance over the transition period.

Iceotope is a global leader in Precision Liquid Cooling, which captures nearly 100% of the heat generated by data centre servers, thereby reducing energy use by up to 40% and any water consumption by 96% across the entire telco data centre estate from the cloud to the edge.

Iceotope’s high-performance cooling solutions are designed to be entirely holistic, while offering an infinitely more scalable and sustainable solution to conventional air cooling methods.

David Craig's journey from Storeman to CEO

Craig has been in the technology industry for most of his working life. But his career began as a Storeman in an electronics company. David worked his way up, later entering the procurement department as a technology buyer, before then being headhunted by IBM. After numerous global leadership roles, Craig joined Iceotope in 2015 as their Executive Chairman and was later invited to take on the CEO role.

During his nine years in the role, David has successfully guided the company through a transformative period during which Iceotope has been celebrated as a leader in Precision Liquid Cooling.

We included Iceotope in our Top 10: 'Coolest' Cooling Companies.

Liquid cooling is versatile as whilst most applications have centred on cooling server components, new applications are rapidly materialising across the entire IT infrastructure spectrum. Given an increased need for power, edge sustainability solutions such as these can work to reduce the strain of new demand, including energy usage and carbon emissions.

“Iceotope Labs not only serves as a blueprint for what a liquid cooled data centre should be but is also a collaborative hub for clients to explore liquid cooling solutions without the need for their own lab space. It's a transformative offering within the data centre industry," he said.

David’s achievements include supporting his team with the goal to engineer practical liquid cooling solutions to meet emerging challenges, such as AI, distributed telco edge, high power dense computing and sustainable data centre operations.

Iceotope celebrates nine years of data centre innovation

For David, the past nine years have been an amazing ride – Iceotope has built up its team, developed its IP portfolio and created the only liquid cooling solution that addresses the thermal and sustainability challenges facing the data centre industry.

“I have enjoyed every moment and have nothing but pride in the team, company and product,” David said. “However, it feels like now is an appropriate time for me to step aside, enjoy retirement and focus on other passions in my life, particularly my charitable work in the UK and Africa. I look forward to seeing the future success of Iceotope and can’t wait to see what comes next.”

George Shaw, Iceotope Chairman, thanked David for his dedication and endless enthusiasm on behalf of everyone at Iceotope.

“We know he will be a tremendous brand ambassador for Precision Liquid Cooling in the years to come. We wish him all the best in his well-deserved retirement,” he said.
