How NTT Data will Support UPS with Data Centre Colocation

NTT Data will now be supporting delivery company UPS in its innovation projects across AI and digital product development.
The company, which is a subsidiary of NTT, will be providing end-to-end technology services to UPS, which include custom data centre colocation, digital transformation and cloud migration.
Both companies will be embarking in a 10 year strategic partnership, with NTT Data supporting UPS as it continues to modernise its IT infrastructure and data centres. It will also be providing AI and cloud services to drive business innovation, as UPS confronts the fast-changing logistics and delivery sector.
“We are honoured to be selected by UPS as a strategic partner on their transformation journey as they operationalise their 'data centre of the future' vision, deliver the next generation IT infrastructure and accelerate digital product development,” says Abhijit Dubey, President & CEO at NTT DATA.
“As the third-largest data center provider in the world, and the only one to offer full-stack transformation services, NTT DATA is well-positioned to help UPS reduce operational costs and risks, drive innovation and revenue growth and maintain market leadership.
“This collaboration is a testament to our commitment to helping clients swiftly keep pace with the markets and prepare for the future.”
Facilitating enterprise digital transformation
As part of the agreement, NTT DATA is set to purchase and operate one of UPS’s mission-critical data centres and enable colocation of IT workloads in-place.
This will involve using a mix of public cloud and on-premises solutions to enhance efficiency and flexibility, with NTT DATA helping UPS to develop new solutions.
These changes are designed to support UPS in its plans to reallocate savings towards projects that are highly innovative and designed to drive growth initiatives. This includes developing new digital-centric services for its customers.
“NTT DATA will bring world-class data centre and infrastructure services to UPS,” says Ken Finnerty, Senior Vice President, Global Information Technology at UPS.
“This arrangement allows the UPS technology teams, under our ‘Efficiency Reimagined’ initiatives, to focus their expertise on the development of digital solutions to solve customers' supply chain needs.”
How data centres can support logistics
NTT DATA provides true end-to-end services seamlessly integrating IT services, data centre operations and digital transformation solutions. Part of its work involves designing and constructing state-of-the-art data centres to manage and optimise IT systems.
Its suite of services are designed to address a broad range of technological needs, with the goal of ensuring its clients can focus on innovation and growth – whilst NTT DATA handles the complex technology transformation.
Data centres can be a great support to the world of logistics. For one thing, they can provide real-time data visibility to enterprises – which can help them to become more proactive in their risk management, in addition to facilitating streamlined inventory management and operations.
This, in turn, can support businesses in improving their cost efficiencies across their supply chains.
More broadly, as increasing global demand for data storage and processing surges, the data centre supply chain has evolved rapidly. According to KPMG, centralised procurement, standardisation of equipment and modular construction techniques have worked to simplify logistics and accelerate project timelines – something that is being encouraged across the data centre industry.
