STT GDC Commits to AI Data Centre Growth in Telangana

ST Telemedia Global Data Centres India (STT GDC India) has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Government of Telangana in India to establish a future-ready data centre campus.
The campus will be situated on the outskirts of the city of Hyderabad and seeks to reaffirm the state of Telangana’s status as a global technology hub. It is expected to offer 100 megawatts (MW) of capacity and be ready for investments.
The MoU was signed in the presence of the Hon’ble Chief Minister of Telangana, Shri Revanth Reddy, IT Minister, Shri DS Babu, Special Chief Secretary, Shri Jayesh Ranjan, TGIIC MD, Shri Vishnu Vardhan Reddy - and Bruno Lopez, President and Group CEO of ST Telemedia Global Data Centres (STT GDC), at the STT GDC headquarters in Singapore.
Creating an AI infrastructure hub
The upcoming campus will feature cutting-edge technologies, with targeted capacities of up to 100MW and the potential to scale for future growth.
Likewise, its AI-ready capabilities make it one of the largest data centre projects in the region. With an investment of up to INR 3,500 crore, the project reaffirms STT GDC India’s commitment to supporting India’s digital transformation.
It also confirms Telangana’s position as a preferred destination for global technology infrastructure and as an upcoming AI infrastructure hub. In 2024, the state announced its ‘Digital Telangana’ initiative, which is designed to leverage IT for effective governance, sustainable economic development and inclusive social progress.
- The state pledged US$40m to bring digital government to 13,000 villages
- 70,000 to 75,000 kilometers of fibre has already been laid across Telangana villages, with a remaining 30,000 kilometres to complete
Digital Telangana focuses on providing digital facilities to all citizens and empowering them with digital literacy to access a range of services and opportunities.
Bruno Lopez, President and Group Chief Executive Officer, ST Telemedia Global Data Centres, shares: "We are honoured to work with the Government of Telangana to increase our presence in this dynamic State.
“With its progressive policies, robust infrastructure, and dedication to promoting technological innovation, Telangana has continuously displayed leadership in long term digital initiatives.”
STT GDC India’s expansion in Telangana is part of its broader vision to achieve a design capacity of 1GW across India by the end of the decade.
With a decadal investment outlook of approximately US$3.2bn, the company currently operates a data centre in HITEC City, Hyderabad, with the new campus expected to further solidify its presence in the region.
“This collaboration demonstrates our common goal of promoting economic expansion, generating employment and constructing a sustainable digital future,” Bruce adds. “We are dedicated to contributing to Telangana's status as a major global technology destination, and we count on the progressive leadership in Telangana to enable this journey.”
Indian data centre growth
The data centre market across India is growing to support the country’s continued technology boom.
The country continues to experience strong digital growth, which is predominantly driven by digital transformation, increased levels of Internet connectivity, rising data consumption and AI adoption.
According to CBRE India, India’s data centre capacity has surged over the last five years, reaching approximately 1,255MW between January and September 2024. This is projected to expand further to around 1,600MW by the end of 2024.
This growth and transformation is expected to continue into 2025, with nearly 475MW currently under construction across several major cities.
