How Nokia Will Support AI Workloads at Nscale Data Centre

Nokia is helping cloud builders worldwide build modern data centre networks
Nokia has been selected by Nscale to deliver an IP network solution to support AI workloads at Nscale’s new sustainable data centre in Stavanger, Norway

Nokia is building an IP network for Nscale’s new sustainable data centre to support AI workloads. The data centre, which is powered by renewable energy and optimised for energy-efficient cooling, will enable cutting-edge AI services, including Graphics Processing Unit as a Service (GPUaaS), a technology which Nscale is a global leader in.

The new IP network stands to support growing global demand for AI-driven applications, which inevitably consume significant amounts of data. The leading telco says that its Ethernet-based data centre fabric provides scalability, programmability and low-latency performance.

Such infrastructure is essential for handling the rigorous demands of AI workloads across essential industries such as education, healthcare, government and finance.

Meeting the demands of AI

The solution comes at the perfect time for Nscale, who secured US$155m in Series A funding in December 2024 to expand its operations across Europe and North America. It now aims to continue accelerating the deployment of large-scale GPU clusters, which are used for AI model training.

In this way, Nscale hopes to set a benchmark for sustainable AI and high-performance computing (HPC) infrastructure. As global demand for AI-driven applications continues to grow, the level of data consumption only increases

This is why Nscale required a reliable, high-performance network to support training and inference on large-scale GPU clusters.

The solution, based on Nokia’s 7220 IXR and 7750 SR platforms, is designed with the most modern, open and programmable architectures to ensure ultra reliability, seamless automation and greater adaptability.

“Our mission is to redefine the boundaries of AI and High-Performance Computing through innovative, sustainable solutions,” says David Power, CTO at Nscale. “Nokia’s data centre fabric enables us to scale our GPU clusters while maintaining the reliability and performance needed to serve our customers with cutting-edge AI services.

“The flexibility of Nokia’s solution ensures we can bring advanced AI capabilities to market faster.”

How Nokia is supporting the data centre market

Nokia is also helping cloud builders worldwide to build modern data centre networks that are highly reliable, secure and easy to operate – which is essential to meet the growing demands of AI workloads worldwide.

The telco has committed itself to data centres more frequently in recent months, having also been selected by CoreWeave to support its hyperscale AI cloud. CoreWeave will also be deploying Nokia IP and optical platforms in data centres across the US and Europe, which is part of a large-scale wide area network build-out to support high-performance AI infrastructure.

Nokia IP and Optical portfolios are designed to provide high programmability and customisation for CoreWeave to evolve with continued changing traffic behaviours and growth. As demand continues to increase, data centres are having to find new ways to cater to the needs of their customers.

“As a hyperscaler, Nscale is already delivering turnkey AI development and deployment solutions to businesses worldwide. With support from Nokia, the path to accessible and transformative AI innovation has never been easier,” explains Paul Alexander, Vice President and Country General Manager UK&I at Nokia.

“By combining advanced Ethernet technology with sustainability, we are helping Nscale deliver world-class AI services while supporting its commitment to renewable energy and environmental responsibility.”
