Andy Power Leads Digital Realty’s AI and Data Centre Growth

Andy Power, President and CEO of Digital Realty, has taken 6th place on Data Centre Magazine’s Top 100 Data Centre Leaders list.
The placement reflects his role in steering one of the industry’s largest global platforms through profound sector shifts in demand and technology adoption.
Under Andy’s leadership Digital Realty continues to expand its global footprint, deepen customer engagements and reshape the way data infrastructure supports artificial intelligence and cloud economies.
From CFO to CEO at a global platform
Andy’s trajectory at Digital Realty spans nearly a decade and a half, beginning with his appointment as CFO in 2015 followed by his promotion to President and CEO at the end of 2022.
The transition marked a shift from financial stewardship to operational leadership at a time when digital infrastructure was entering a period of intensified demand.
As CFO and, subsequently, as President he oversaw global portfolio operations, technology development and the firm’s financial functions across its data centre platform.
He also played a key role in capital strategy, having managed and advised on more than US$30bn in capital raises and investments prior to joining Digital Realty.
Industry observers have noted that Andy’s influence extends beyond balance sheet metrics. Andy previously highlighted the company’s performance to date in 2025, noting that “robust enterprise demand continues to drive our 0‑1 MW plus interconnection offering” and pointing to a development pipeline of 5GW of buildable IT capacity worldwide.
Responding to AI‑driven demand
Digital Realty’s strategic positioning under Andy mirrors broader industry trends where enterprise, cloud and AI workloads increasingly shape infrastructure requirements.
In recent industry reporting, Andy emphasised that power availability will be a “defining constraint and opportunity” for data centre growth as demand from AI and cloud ecosystems accelerates.
He outlined how the company’s more than 5GW of development runway is being directed to support this shift, with major hubs such as Northern Virginia, Singapore, Frankfurt and Amsterdam anchoring demand.
Andy has also engaged with how industry innovation relates to core infrastructure.
In discussing a collaboration with Nvidia on next‑generation AI and quantum facilities, he said: “Digital Realty’s mission has always been to enable the world’s most innovative technologies by providing secure, interconnected infrastructure at global scale.
“By working with OQC, we’re using Nvidia supercomputing to make quantum-AI directly accessible in one of the world’s most important data hubs - empowering enterprises and governments to unlock new levels of performance and resilience.”
His comments capture a strategic focus on interconnection and ecosystem‑scale design – on delivering data centre solutions that go beyond square footage and offer connectivity, hybrid cloud integration and support for emerging compute needs.
Sustainability in infrastructure delivery
Alongside growth and innovation Andy has driven sustainability efforts across Digital Realty’s operations.
In its Impact Report the company highlighted that it reached 1.5GW of renewable energy capacity under contract and matched 185 data centres to 100% renewable supply.
Andy said this reflects “This reflects our commitment to build, power and operate sustainable data centres, which is trusted and relied upon by more than 5,000 customers.”
This push aligns with industry trends towards decarbonisation and energy efficiency even as data centre power demands rise with AI workloads.
As operators compete to balance sustainability with performance, Andy’s public articulation of progress positions Digital Realty within that broader industry dialogue.
On financial performance, comment from earnings calls shows Andy framing Digital Realty as seeking to “be a consistent compounder” as demand for data centre services grows alongside cloud and AI adoption.
He told analysts that Digital Realty’s full‑spectrum strategy and backlog help provide clear visibility into future performance.
In a period marked by rapid technological change and rising infrastructure complexity, Andy’s leadership at Digital Realty illustrates how global scale, customer‑centred product innovation and energy strategy converge in the decisions shaping data centre markets today.
