Colt DCS Names New Japan Lead to Support AI Growth

The race to build AI-ready infrastructure is reshaping the global data centre market, and Japan is fast becoming one of the industry’s most closely watched battlegrounds.
Against that backdrop, Colt Data Centre Services (Colt DCS) has appointed Fumi Takei as Vice President and Head of Japan, tasking her with leading the company’s next phase of expansion in the country.
The move comes as Colt DCS continues to scale its footprint in Japan, where it already operates 134MW of IT capacity and has a further 200MW under development.
Globally, the operator’s portfolio includes 15 operational data centres, with another 12 sites under development across nine cities in the UK, Europe and the APAC region.
As hyperscalers and enterprises increase demand for high-density compute environments capable of supporting AI workloads, operators are under pressure to secure land and local partnerships in strategic markets.
Fumi Takei is joining Colt DCS with more than 18 years of experience spanning real estate investment, infrastructure and capital markets.
Her background includes roles across global investment firms and digital infrastructure platforms, experience the company sees as increasingly important as international operators navigate complex regional expansion plans.
Japan’s Growing Role in AI Infrastructure
Japan has emerged as a key growth market for data centre providers in Asia Pacific, driven by cloud adoption, enterprise digitisation and rising AI infrastructure requirements.
Tokyo in particular is one of the region’s largest colocation hubs, though operators are also expanding into surrounding regions as power availability tightens.
In her new role, Fumi will oversee Colt DCS’ operations and strategic alignment in Japan, while also managing engagement with customers, regulators, partners and wider industry stakeholders.
“We are delighted to welcome Fumi as Vice President and Head of Japan at a pivotal time for Colt DCS,” said Quy Nguyen, Acting CEO and Chief Sales Officer.
“Japan plays a critical role in our global platform, particularly as we continue to invest in facilities that support AI infrastructure.
“This position will be key to advancing our strategy and accelerating the growth of our data centre portfolio across the country.”
Scaling Capacity in a Competitive Market
The appointment reflects the growing importance of regional leadership roles as global data centre operators compete for expansion opportunities in Asia’s largest digital economies.
For Colt DCS, Japan plays a central role in the company's wider hyperscale strategy as AI demand pushes operators to develop larger campuses with greater power capacity and stronger connectivity ecosystems.
The new appointment also signals the company’s intention to deepen local execution capabilities while continuing to align with Colt DCS’ global growth strategy.
