Digital Edge has announced a US$4.5bn investment to develop CGK Campus, a major hyperscale data centre project in Indonesia that will deliver 500MW of IT capacity at full build-out.

Located within the GIIC Industrial Estate in Bekasi, the campus is set to become one of the country’s largest AI-ready data centre developments and Digital Edge’s biggest infrastructure commitment to date.

The project reflects growing demand for data centre capacity across Southeast Asia as cloud adoption accelerates and AI workloads place new requirements on digital infrastructure.

Digital Edge says the campus will support Indonesia’s rapidly-expanding digital economy and strengthen the Greater Jakarta region as a key hub for hyperscale deployment.

Delivering hyperscale capacity for AI growth

CGK Campus will provide 500MW of IT capacity once fully developed, with scalability planned up to 1GW.

The site is designed specifically for next-generation AI workloads, combining operational efficiency with sustainability measures intended to meet the needs of hyperscale customers.

Digital Edge is targeting an annualised Power Usage Effectiveness of 1.25, positioning the campus as one of the most energy-efficient facilities in the region.

The development will incorporate direct-to-chip liquid cooling, recycled water systems and renewable energy integration. Carrier-neutral design is central to the campus strategy, providing network diversity and broad ecosystem access for enterprise, cloud and AI customers.

Digital Edge describes the site as a critical anchor point for Indonesia’s digital future.

Strategic location

The campus is strategically located less than 15km from other major data centre clusters and around 40km from Digital Edge’s existing downtown EDGE1 and EDGE2 facilities.

This proximity is intended to provide low-latency connectivity to Jakarta’s key business districts while strengthening the wider national digital infrastructure network.

Development will take place in multiple phases. Phase one includes three data centre buildings, with the first scheduled to be ready for service by Q4 2026. The second building is expected in Q1 2027, followed by the third in Q2 2027.

Major infrastructure investment in APAC

Digital Edge’s leadership describe CGK Campus as a defining step in the company’s Asia Pacific growth strategy.

John Freeman, CEO of Digital Edge, says: “The CGK Campus is a pivotal milestone in our APAC strategy and our largest infrastructure investment to date.

“This landmark investment will enable us to drive the next decade of innovation, cloud adoption and digital services across Indonesia and the broader region.”

The company says the campus is designed to help close the gap between the country’s booming digital economy and the infrastructure required to support it at scale.

Stephanus Oscar, CEO of Digital Edge Indonesia, comments: “Indonesia’s digital economy is expanding faster than infrastructure can keep up. The CGK Campus bridges that gap with 500MW of sustainable, carrier-neutral capacity built for hyperscale and AI deployments.

“With AI shaping the future of enterprise and cloud services, Digital Edge is at the forefront of this transformation.”

Connectivity powered by Indonet assets

CGK Campus will be supported by Indonet, Digital Edge’s wholly-owned Indonesian telecommunications subsidiary, which will provide fibre and network infrastructure underpinning connectivity across the site.

Andy Rigoli, CEO of Indonet, says: “Our infrastructure provides the connectivity foundation for CGK Campus.

“Our new routes to the GIIC campus are built 100% underground, a design that significantly enhances reliability and resilience compared to traditional deployments.

“Combined with industry-leading equipment and advanced monitoring, this integration enables Digital Edge to deliver carrier-neutral solutions that meet the highest standards for hyperscale and enterprise customers.”

With its scale, sustainability targets and AI-ready infrastructure, CGK Campus is set to play a significant role in supporting Indonesia’s next phase of cloud and digital transformation.
