Google Cloud: AI and Connectivity Drive Thailand Expansion

Google Cloud has launched a new cloud region in Bangkok, Thailand, marking a major step in expanding its high-performance, in-country cloud services for enterprises, data centres and public sector organisations.
The region is part of a US$1bn investment in Thai technical infrastructure and is expected to contribute THB1.4tn (US$41bn) in economic value over the next five years, while supporting an average of 130,000 jobs annually.
“This new Thailand cloud region brings the same world-class infrastructure that powers Google’s global services directly to Thai enterprises, startups, and public sector institutions,” says Karthik Narain, Chief Product and Business Officer at Google Cloud.
“With access to Google Cloud’s leading cloud and AI technologies, we’re giving Thai organisations a foundation for growth in the AI era, allowing them to innovate faster with greater control over their data.”
Data residency and reliability for regulated industries
For regulated sectors such as financial services and the public sector, the Bangkok region provides a compliant, secure foundation.
Its three interconnected zones ensure data can be stored and processed locally, meeting requirements under Thailand’s Personal Data Protection Act (PDPA).
Multi-layered encryption and low-latency connectivity allow organisations to adopt cloud services while maintaining regulatory alignment and robust operational performance.
“KASIKORN Business-Technology Group (KBTG) is on a mission to become the region’s premier technology organisation, and Google’s new cloud region in Thailand is the catalyst for advancing that ambition,” adds Voranuch Dejakaisaya, Executive Chairman at KASIKORN Business-Technology Group.
“First, the reduced network latency and enhanced performance it delivers will enable faster, highly responsive digital banking services for our users.
“Second, it streamlines our compliance with the Bank of Thailand’s regulatory standards, providing us with robust control over data residency and privacy.
“Finally, it allows us to optimise our cloud architecture for cost efficiency while maintaining the highest security standards, ultimately empowering us to accelerate our pace of innovation to deliver tangible value for the people of Thailand.”
Leveraging a global network for cloud and AI
The Bangkok cloud region is integrated into Google’s planet-scale network, spanning more than 200 countries and territories and 7.75 million kilometres of terrestrial and subsea fibre, including the recently-announced TalayLink cable connecting Australia and Thailand.
This provides ultra-fast, low-latency connectivity for mission-critical applications and enhances data centre interconnectivity across the Asia-Pacific region and globally.
Through this network, Thai enterprises can securely move large volumes of data between on-premises systems, cloud environments and 43 Google Cloud regions worldwide, supporting hybrid deployments and reducing operational costs by more than 20% on average.
Access to enterprise AI and agentic solutions
The Bangkok cloud region also acts as a gateway to Google Cloud’s AI capabilities. Organisations can leverage Vertex AI and Gemini models, including generative media platforms such as Imagen and Veo, to build and deploy agentic solutions.
Gemini Enterprise allows businesses to manage AI agents across workflows, enabling AI-driven insights and automation directly within operational systems.
“The launch of Google’s local cloud region is a watershed moment for Thailand’s AI-driven future,” comments Ekaraj Panjavinin, President of True Digital Group.
“For True Digital Group, this provides the secure bedrock to unify vast datasets and translate them into meaningful real-world impact. It will also fuel our AI-first direction, enabling the delivery of more personalised digital services for every Thai consumer.
“Crucially, it democratises access to Google Cloud’s best-in-class capabilities, empowering SMEs, enterprises, and the public sector alike to innovate with confidence.”
Upskilling the Thai workforce
Alongside the cloud region, Google Cloud is expanding AI and cloud skills initiatives. Its ChaiyoGCP programme has delivered more than 110,000 hands-on labs in Thailand, with at least 70% AI-focused.
Google Skills provides more than3,000 free courses to upskill non-technical learners in areas such as cloud computing, AI, cybersecurity and generative AI leadership, addressing the growing demand for workforce readiness in the AI era.
These efforts aim to equip Thai organisations and their employees with the skills necessary to implement AI solutions, optimise data centre operations and unlock new efficiencies while supporting a digitally enabled economy.
The Bangkok cloud region now offers data centres and enterprises in Thailand a secure, high-performance foundation for growth, connectivity and AI innovation.
