How CoreSite Drives Cloud Connectivity and AI Infrastructure
CoreSite has secured 12th position in Data Centre Magazine's Top 100 list, reflecting the company's continued growth and strategic investments in key US markets.
The ranking recognises CoreSite's expanding portfolio of interconnection-focused data centres and its role in supporting the infrastructure demands of AI, cloud computing and enterprise workloads.
Building connectivity from coast to coast
CoreSite, a subsidiary of American Tower Corporation, operates 30 data centres totalling approximately 4.5 million square feet across 11 US markets. The company was acquired by American Tower in December 2021 for US$10.1bn and has since maintained its position as a provider of colocation and interconnection services for enterprises, cloud providers and network operators.
The Denver-based company traces its origins to 2001 when The Carlyle Group established CRG West to manage interconnectivity at One Wilshire in Los Angeles and the Market Post Tower in San Jose.
After becoming a public company in 2010, CoreSite expanded its portfolio before American Tower completed the acquisition to extend its infrastructure portfolio beyond traditional telecommunications towers into data centre operations.
Strategic acquisitions and expansions
In April 2025, CoreSite completed the acquisition of the Denver Gas and Electric Building, which houses its DE1 data centre operations.
The building, located at 910 15th Street in downtown Denver, serves as the primary interconnection point in the Rocky Mountain region. The acquisition added approximately 100 customers and enabled CoreSite to add three critical megawatts of capacity, nearly doubling DE1's space and power footprint.
Yvonne Ng, General Manager and Vice President of the Central Region at CoreSite, said: "We are planning additional investment in the historic Denver Gas and Electric Building to increase operational efficiency and offer our customers a reliable, highly interconnected environment that meets all their high-performance, high-density computing requirements.”
The company is also constructing DE3, an 180,000-square-foot data centre at 4900 N Race Street in Denver. The facility broke ground in October 2025 and represents the first purpose-built colocation data centre constructed in Denver in two decades.
Once the Denver campus expansion is completed, it will deliver approximately 600,000 square feet with 60 critical megawatts of power, with DE3 targeted for availability in 2026.
Silicon Valley campus expansion
CoreSite completed a significant expansion in July 2025 with the opening of its SV9 data centre in Santa Clara, California. The 228,000-square-foot facility adds to the company's Silicon Valley footprint, which now totals more than 1.4 million square feet across nine data centres spanning Santa Clara, Milpitas and San Jose.
"This strategic expansion in Silicon Valley reflects our commitment to delivering the scalable, high-performance infrastructure our customers need to power AI, cloud and mission-critical workloads," said Brouk Eshetu, Senior Vice President of General Management at CoreSite.
The SV9 facility is certified as part of the Nvidia DGX-Ready Data Center programme, providing the power, cooling and interconnection needed for AI, machine learning and other compute-intensive applications.
CoreSite is one of only two providers in Silicon Valley offering both a high concentration of on-net carriers and a native cloud ecosystem coupled with wholesale capacity.
The campus offers direct connections to AWS, Google Cloud and Microsoft Azure.
Interconnection and hybrid infrastructure
CoreSite's business model centres on providing interconnection services through its data centre campuses, which are connected by high-count dark fibre. The company's Open Cloud Exchange (OCX) platform enables customers to connect to multiple cloud providers through a single port, supporting multicloud strategies that have become standard for enterprise IT operations.
In May 2025, CoreSite released its 2025 State of the Data Center Report, based on a survey of 300 chief information officers, chief technology officers and other IT decision makers.
The report found that 98% of respondents are implementing or planning a hybrid IT architecture that combines public and private cloud, on-premises and colocation services.
Anthony Hatzenbuehler, Senior Vice President of Operations at CoreSite, said: "To have a truly successful hybrid IT environment, one that creates a secure and low-latency competitive edge, companies need seamless integration and connectivity across applications and services.
"IT leaders are relying on colocation providers to bridge the interconnection gap by offering direct cloud interconnections to multiple environments across providers."
CoreSite was recognised as a representative vendor in the 2025 Gartner Market Guide for Data Center Colocation in September 2025.
"We believe that CoreSite's recognition in the Gartner Market Guide validates our commitment to delivering highly interconnected, purpose-built data centre campuses designed to meet the growing demands of modern enterprises," said Juan Font, President and CEO of CoreSite and Senior Vice President of American Tower.
The company operates carrier hotels including One Wilshire in Los Angeles, which hosts more than 300 networks, and the Denver Gas and Electric Building in the Rocky Mountain region.
These facilities serve as interconnection hubs where network operators, cloud providers and enterprises can exchange traffic and access distributed computing resources.
CoreSite's data centres provide colocation services ranging from individual cabinets to private suites and build-to-suit deployments. The company's facilities undergo annual assessments by independent auditors to maintain compliance certifications including SOC 1 Type 2, SOC 2 Type 2, ISO 27001, NIST 800-53, PCI DSS and HIPAA. The company also offers renewable energy certificates across its portfolio to support customer sustainability objectives.
Industrywide education efforts
In April 2025, CoreSite launched a Data Center Knowledge Base to educate stakeholders about the role of data centres in supporting daily digital activities.
"Everyone is a consumer of data centres; data is generated every time you use a smart phone, stream a show or send an email – and that data has to be stored and processed," said Juan.
"Data centres serve as the backbone and critical infrastructure for all this data, and we saw an opportunity to help people understand this relationship and the many benefits data centres have long contributed to our modern way of life."
CoreSite's 12th place ranking in Data Centre Magazine's 2025 Top 100 Data Centre Companies list underscores the company's position as a major player in the US colocation market.
With ongoing expansions in Denver and Silicon Valley, coupled with its strategic focus on interconnection services and hybrid IT solutions, CoreSite continues to strengthen its infrastructure portfolio to meet the evolving needs of enterprises navigating the demands of cloud computing, AI workloads and digital transformation.
