Baudouin gensets deliver reliable, scalable and sustainable backup power for hyperscale and colocation data centres, supporting sustainable AI growth

The data centre industry is entering a new era of demand. Hyperscale and colocation facilities are growing at record speed, driven by cloud adoption and the surge of AI workloads.

With grid constraints and tighter sustainability regulations, the role of backup power has never been more critical. Operators need solutions that combine uncompromising reliability with a lower environmental impact and can be deployed fast.

Engineered for mission-critical performance

Baudouin has built its reputation in power generation by delivering high-performance solutions for the most demanding standby applications. Today, the company designs and manufactures complete gensets specifically for the stringent technical and operational requirements of data centres with a focus on scalability, efficiency, and sustainability.

At the core of this offering is the 20M55 genset, delivering up to 5250 kVA of dependable standby power for hyperscale and colocation projects. Certified to ISO 8528 G3 and pre-approved by the Uptime Institute, it is Tier-ready and integrates seamlessly into complex backup architectures.

In an outage scenario, the 20M55 responds in just 10 seconds, keeping critical systems online. Its dual starting motors provide built-in redundancy for maximum reliability, while eight high-efficiency turbochargers ensure stable power output even under heavy block loads. Optimised fuel consumption keeps operating costs under control without sacrificing performance.

HVO: decarbonising standby power without compromise

Decarbonisation is a top priority across the sector, and fuel choice is one of the fastest ways to make an impact. Baudouin’s entire genset range is fully compatible with HVO100 Hydrotreated Vegetable Oil, a renewable paraffinic fuel made from waste oils and fats. HVO can cut lifecycle CO₂ emissions by up to 90% compared to diesel without affecting engine performance, load acceptance, or start-up response times.

Scaling up to hyperscale

Baudouin’s portfolio now includes the 20M61 genset, delivering up to 6 MVA, one of the highest single set outputs available today. Its compact footprint means fewer units are required for large-scale projects, reducing space needs, installation complexity, and total cost of ownership. Combined with one of the fastest lead times in the industry, under six months, it offers a decisive advantage for operators under pressure to deliver projects fast.
