How TotalEnergies Powers Data Centres with Renewable Energy

As data demand accelerates worldwide, energy-intensive data centres have become a central focus of decarbonisation efforts.
TotalEnergies, a global multi-energy company, is positioning itself at the forefront of this transition by supplying clean, reliable power to leading data centre operators.
With data centres now estimated to have consumed nearly 3% of global electricity in 2024, long-term renewable energy contracts are critical to ensuring both sustainability and stability in the sector.
Through major partnerships announced in late 2025 â spanning Spain, the United States and Malaysia â TotalEnergies is strengthening its role as a trusted supplier of renewable electricity to hyperscale operators and digital infrastructure leaders.
TotalEnergies is sponsoring Data Centre Magazineâs first in-person event, Data Centre LIVE: The London Summit 2026, held at Exhibition White City in London, from 20-21 May 2026.
Join more than 1,000 attendees to hear from more than 50 expert speakers, explore 12 focused content themes and attend four executive workshops.
A decade of clean power for Data4 in Spain
In November 2025, TotalEnergies and Data4, the European leader in data centre development, signed a 10-year agreement to supply 610GWh of renewable electricity to Data4âs Spanish facilities.
The energy, generated from local wind and solar farms with a combined capacity of 30MW, will power Data4âs expanding campuses and support its âŹ2bn (US$2.4bn) investment plan for Spain by 2030.
The partnership offers a stable, carbon-free supply under TotalEnergiesâ Clean Firm Power model â an integrated solution that blends renewable generation with flexible assets.
âWe are delighted with this agreement with Data4, which illustrates our ability to offer competitive and tailored electricity supply solutions to large industrial groups,â says Sophie Chevalier, Senior Vice President Flexible Power & Integration at TotalEnergies.
âOur Clean Firm Power solutions are specifically designed to meet our clientsâ requirements in terms of cost, consumption profile, and environmental commitment.
âThese solutions are based on our integrated power portfolio, combining both renewable and flexible assets and contribute to achieving our target of 12% profitability in the power sector.â
Google turns to solar power in Ohio
Just over a week later, TotalEnergies revealed a 15-year Power Purchase Agreement with Google to supply 1.5TWh of renewable electricity from its Montpelier solar farm in Ohio.
The facility connects to the PJM grid â the largest in the United States â and will support Googleâs regional data centre operations.
The deal reflects both companiesâ ambition to deliver carbon-free, reliable power to digital infrastructure while enhancing local grid resilience.
âWe are delighted to strengthen our partnership with Google with this agreement to supply renewable electricity to their data centres in Ohio,â says StĂ©phane Michel, President of Gas, Renewables & Power at TotalEnergies.
âThis agreement illustrates TotalEnergiesâs ability to meet the growing energy demands of major tech companies by leveraging its integrated portfolio of renewable and flexible assets.
âIt also contributes to achieving our target of 12% profitability in the power sector.â
The arrangement builds on TotalEnergiesâ growing 10GW power portfolio in the US, spanning solar, wind and battery storage projects to serve energy-intensive industries transitioning to renewables.
Expanding clean capacity in Malaysia
TotalEnergies extended its collaboration with Google again in December 2025, announcing a 21-year PPA to supply 1TWh of certified renewable power from the Citra Energies solar plant in Kedah, Malaysia.
Developed with local partner MK Land under the Corporate Green Power Programme, the project will underpin Googleâs new Malaysian data centre operations.
âWe are delighted to strengthen our collaboration with Google through this agreement to supply renewable electricity to their new data center in Malaysia,â Sophie says.
âThis PPA illustrates our Companyâs ability to offer competitive power solutions tailored to the needs of major tech groups, both in mature markets, such as the United States and Europe, and in emerging countries like Malaysia.
âIt also contributes to achieving our target of 12% profitability in the power sector.â
By expanding its reach from Europe to Asia, TotalEnergies is building a global network of renewable energy partnerships that support the digital economyâs decarbonisation.
