National Data Centre Day: Celebrating the UK’s Industry

National Data Centre Day is a brand-new UK awareness day created to celebrate the people, innovation and sustainability driving the data centre sector.
It highlights their importance in keeping businesses, services and society connected, providing infrastructure systems as vital as water and energy.
From enabling cloud and AI to underpinning essential services such as healthcare, finance, the Internet and scientific research, data centres are the backbone of the digital world but often go unnoticed.
National Data Centre Day aims to champion industry advocacy by raising awareness of data centres as the essential infrastructure that keeps the UK running. It also applauds the people behind the sector and seeks to improve public perception by showcasing the industry’s role in advancing digital technology, sustainability and energy efficiency.
Why 12 September matters
The date – 12 September 2025 – marks the anniversary of when data centres were officially classified as Critical National Infrastructure by the UK Government and the Department for Science, Innovation and Technology.
The 12 September milestone underscores the critical nature of data centre infrastructure and the need for ongoing investment, skills and community engagement
As demand for digital services grows and AI adoption accelerates, the day provides a focal point for education and outreach, while recognising the teams who design, build, operate and support facilities nationwide.
