Pure DC appoints former CyrusOne leader Gary Wojtaszek as Executive Chairman and interim CEO as the company expands hyperscale and AI data centre capacity

Pure Data Centres Group has appointed Gary Wojtaszek as Executive Chairman and interim CEO as the hyperscale developer prepares for a new phase of data centre expansion across Europe and the Middle East.

Pure DC operates hyperscale data centre platforms designed to support cloud providers and AI workloads, with capacity planned across several key European markets. Their leadership change comes as demand for cloud and AI infrastructure continues to grow across regional digital infrastructure markets, including Europe and the Middle East.

Gary joins the company after leading CyrusOne through a period of expansion that positioned the firm among the largest global data centre operators. During his tenure, CyrusOne scaled its hyperscale platform before being acquired for US$15bn by investment firms KKR and Global Infrastructure Partners.

Expansion across hyperscale and AI infrastructure

Pure DC operates as an independent pan-European data centre platform with facilities across the FLAP-D markets (Frankfurt, London, Amsterdam, Paris and Dublin) which represent the largest data centre hubs in Europe. These markets host many of the region’s hyperscale cloud deployments and internet exchange points.

According to the company, the growth of AI workloads is now influencing how new data centre capacity is designed and deployed. AI applications require large computing clusters and high power density environments, often supported by dedicated campuses capable of delivering gigawatt-scale power capacity.

Alongside its core hubs, the company has built a presence in the Middle East, where demand for cloud infrastructure and digital services is increasing.

Gary Wojtaszek says Pure DC intends to scale its infrastructure platform as this demand grows.

He continues: “The AI wave that transformed the US market is now emerging across Europe, and the opportunity to scale a focused, high-quality platform at this moment is compelling.

“Our objective is clear: expand in supply-constrained core markets, deliver for hyperscale and AI customers at the highest standards, and develop the next generation of large-scale AI campuses across the region.”

Leadership transition as company scales

The appointment also marks a leadership transition at the company. Dame Dawn Childs, who served as CEO from May 2023, is moving into the role of President.

She says: “Gary’s appointment is a significant milestone for Pure DC.”

“His global leadership experience and proven ability to scale complex infrastructure platforms make him uniquely suited to lead our next chapter of growth.

“We have strong momentum and a world-class team, and this leadership transition positions us to accelerate further.”

Pure DC currently has more than 1GW of data centre capacity either operational or under development across its portfolio.

Several projects are under construction across European and Middle Eastern markets as the company develops infrastructure designed for hyperscale cloud platforms and AI computing environments.

The expansion strategy includes growth in established metropolitan hubs where power and land availability are increasingly constrained. At the same time, Pure DC is also developing larger data centre campuses designed to support emerging AI workloads that require higher power availability and specialised infrastructure.
