Soluna and Canaan Partner on 20MW Wind-Powered Texas Project

Soluna Holdings and crypto mining innovator Canaan Inc. (Canaan) have announced a new hosting agreement that will see 20MW of Avalon A15 XP Bitcoin miners deployed at Soluna’s Project Dorothy data centre in Briscoe County, Texas.
The collaboration underscores the growing role of renewable-powered data centres in scaling energy-intensive applications, including Bitcoin mining and AI.
The partnership will strengthen Soluna’s position as a major developer of green data centres, while giving Canaan an expanded North American footprint with access to reliable and cost-efficient infrastructure.
“Soluna is thrilled to develop this new partnership with an industry leader like Canaan,” says John Belizaire, CEO of Soluna.
“This agreement reflects our shared commitment to delivering high-performance computing solutions powered by renewable energy. With Project Dorothy 2 now online and operational, we're doubling down on our mission to make renewable energy a global superpower.”
Deploying 20MW of next-generation miners
The new deployment, expected in the first quarter of 2026, involves approximately 1 exahash per second (EH/s) of computing power. Canaan’s Avalon A15 XP units are designed for efficiency and resilience, and their integration with Soluna’s wind-powered site highlights the sustainability focus of both companies.
The Project Dorothy facility operates primarily on behind-the-meter wind power but also connects to the grid to guarantee uptime. This dual setup allows the site to deliver both performance and stability while maintaining competitive cost efficiency.
“Our partnership with Soluna is another significant step in advancing our North American self-mining strategy,” says Nangeng Zhang, Chairman and CEO of Canaan.
“Each of the partnerships that we have entered into brings a new dimension to our efforts to expand within the region, and we are excited to work with Soluna and utilise their cutting-edge data centre.
“The site primarily runs on behind-the-meter wind power but can also draw from the grid to ensure very high uptime.
This is a unique advantage that combines reliable operations with compelling cost efficiency. Coupling our efficient and resilient Avalon A15 XP miners with Soluna's infrastructure should be a win for both companies.”
Supporting renewable-powered digital infrastructure
The Project Dorothy campus is a core part of Soluna’s strategy to build out renewable-powered digital infrastructure.
The company is developing more than 2.8GW of renewable computing projects designed to monetise excess clean energy by supporting workloads such as Bitcoin mining and AI.
By aligning renewable energy with high-density computing, Soluna addresses two challenges: reducing curtailment of green energy sources and providing scalable infrastructure for compute-intensive industries.
The Texas project illustrates how renewable-powered data centres can balance sustainability with the demands of emerging technologies.
Expansion for both partners
For Soluna, the Canaan agreement marks another milestone in scaling its renewable-powered model. With Project Dorothy 2 now operational, the company signals that partnerships with technology providers are key to monetising its growing pipeline of capacity.
For Canaan, the project supports a broader roadmap to increase its presence in North America amid rising global demand for secure and efficient blockchain infrastructure.
By partnering with operators like Soluna, the company strengthens its ability to deploy advanced hardware in locations with abundant renewable energy.
Together, the two companies aim to demonstrate that large-scale mining and compute workloads can be hosted sustainably, with facilities designed to integrate renewable power at scale.
