Why Cologix is Expanding its Ashburn Campus by 38 Acres

Cologix has announced the acquisition of 38 acres of land in Ashburn, Virginia, expanding its digital infrastructure footprint in one of the world's most critical data centre regions. 

There are currently 570 data centres in Virginia from a total of 23 markets, with most situated in Northern Virginia around 'Data Centre Alley' in Ashburn, making it one of the epicentres of the American data centre boom.

The site on Beaumeade Circle sits right at the heart of Data Centre Alley, surrounded by a dense cluster of facilities. 

This new acquisition of real estate will give Cologix further access to an area with long-term capacity in a market where scale, connectivity and proximity are increasingly difficult to secure. 

Cologix plans to use the site to support its hyperscale, cloud, network, enterprise and locally based customers while maintaining partnerships and community engagement across Loudoun County.

A focus on AI and hyperscale

Cologix will develop a state-of-the-art interconnection hub on the new campus. This hub provides redundancy and resilience designed for AI-scale networking, allowing customers to connect across global networks and cloud platforms with ultra-low latency. 

The facility will meet rising demands from AI inference workloads and hybrid cloud architectures.

Preliminary planning begins around 2030, with 85MW of initial power capacity and the ability to expand to more than 300MW over time.

The newly acquired industrially zoned site sits within one of the densest fibre networks in the world, giving direct connectivity to global cloud platforms, carriers and enterprise networks. 

Being in Ashburn consolidates the company’s existing presence and reinforces its standing in what is considered the world’s most important interconnection market.

Cologix focuses on providing scalable options for clients who need high-performance connectivity and resilient power infrastructure. 

The Ashburn site will act as a digital hub, offering AI-ready environments and hybrid cloud-ready facilities to support large-scale data workloads or latency-sensitive applications.
