atNorth will serve as a foundation for advancing Sweden’s AI capabilities across multiple industries
Nordic data centre provider atNorth will deploy 6G AI Sweden's National AI Cloud at a data centre in Stockholm using Nvidia H200 and GB200 chips

Eager to deliver renewable solutions for national AI infrastructure, atNorth has secured a contract to host Sweden's new National AI Cloud at its SWE01 facility in Stockholm.

The infrastructure will serve as the foundation for 6G AI Sweden's initiative to enhance the nation's artificial intelligence capabilities across multiple sectors. Likewise, atNorth will utilise its Stockholm site to house the infrastructure, which includes Nvidia's H200 and Blackwell GB200 processors

These components will form the backbone of Sweden's sovereign AI computing platform, which aims to maintain data within Swedish jurisdiction.

“This agreement is an important milestone for establishing 6G AI Sweden as a leading provider of sovereign AI infrastructure in Sweden,” says M.A. Zaman, Founder & Chairman of 6G AI Sweden AB.

“By incorporating Nvidia's powerful AI technologies and hosting our infrastructure at atNorth's SWE01 data centre, we are deploying a cutting-edge AI Cloud in Sweden and empowering businesses to embrace the future of AI in a responsible way.”

atNorth continues to expand Nordic footprint

This move represents a continuation of atNorth's growth in the Nordic region. Following its acquisition of high-performance computing specialist Gompute in 2023, the company has strengthened its position in the data-intensive computing market.

Currently, atNorth operates eight data centres across the Nordic region with its headquarters in Reykjavik, Iceland. All of these are powered with sustainable sources of power.

The company has commenced sustainably-led expansion projects in Denmark and Finland, with plans for an additional facility in Sollefteå Municipality, Sweden. Having published its 2024 Sustainability Report, atNorth states it remains committed to advancing sustainability, energy efficiency and community engagement.

The company’s SWE01 data centre is celebrated for its architecture being designed to support high-performance computing (HPC) workloads while maintaining environmental efficiency.

Crucially, the facility incorporates heat reuse systems that capture waste heat from computing operations for redistribution to local energy networks.

The National AI Cloud deployment marks a significant project for the Stockholm facility, positioning it as a central component in Sweden’s AI infrastructure. Selecting the facility for this national initiative demonstrates how its forward-thinking design can hope to handle rising AI workloads in a sustainable way.

Powering the future of AI and the cloud

The National AI Cloud will operate under Swedish legal jurisdiction with full compliance with the European Union’s General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). This arrangement ensures that critical AI infrastructure maintains data sovereignty while meeting required legal standards for data protection.

It hopes to address concerns over AI adoption, particularly for telecommunications providers, enterprise customers and governments.

The deployment also includes Nvidia's most recent processor technologies. The H200 and Blackwell GB200 chips are specifically designed to offer the compute capacity required for advanced AI workloads – including machine learning model training and inferencing.

6G AI Sweden has designed the infrastructure to support national competitiveness in artificial intelligence while keeping data within Swedish borders. The organisation aims to establish Sweden as a centre for AI development through this initiative.

Ultimately, the National AI Cloud hopes to represent a strategic investment in computing infrastructure that enables Swedish organisations to develop and deploy AI applications within a secure, sovereign environment.

Anders Fryxell, Chief Sales Officer at atNorth, states: “We look forward to hosting Sweden's leading National AI Cloud at our SWE01 data centre. This partnership reflects a shared ethos of driving innovation while minimising environmental impact.

“Together, we are committed to supporting AI development in a sustainable and responsible way.”
