Endeavour’s Battery Bid to Optimise AI Data Centres

Infrastructure technology developer Endeavour has formed a strategic partnership with battery manufacturer Tiamat to deliver energy storage systems for AI data centres and power grid applications.
The arrangement grants Endeavour exclusive distribution rights to Tiamat's sodium-based battery technology. These next-generation 60 C-Rate batteries (battery technology can fully charge and discharge at rates exceeding 60 times in one hour) are optimised for data centre and peak shaving applications and will be available exclusively through Endeavour.
Ultimately, the batteries are designed to provide ultra-fast responsiveness, alongside a long life and high energy density, which makes these batteries uniquely suited to manage volatile AI compute loads safely and efficiently.
“We are scaling the next generation of inverters and power routers capable of managing complex AI data centre loads and enabling greater grid stability,” says Endeavour CEO Jakob Carnemark.
“We look forward to working with Tiamat to scale the solution globally and continue to support their growth.”
Who is Tiamat?
Tiamat designs, develops and industrialises breakthrough sodium-ion batteries.
With its two generations of batteries, Tiamat covers electrification needs in the mobility field (road, rail, marine, and air), stationary applications, off-road needs and power tool markets.
Founded in France in 2017, Tiamat applies years of academic research to create, develop, industrialise and produce a power battery technology. The company will supply batteries for Endeavour’s Edged data centre portfolio and other hyperscale customers through the partnership.
Jakob adds: “Tiamat’s battery chemistry is unique among other sodium chemistries. The batteries are currently being manufactured and have been tested by Endeavour over the last year on real-world AI workloads and complex grid transients for hundreds of thousands of cycles.”
With Tiamat’s proprietary chemistry, the company says there is virtually no opportunity for thermal runaway. The product is also free of lithium, cobalt and nickel, which eliminates resource scarcity issues and works to avoid the humanitarian challenges associated with battery supply chains.
These attributes are an essential part of Endeavour’s mission of solving society’s largest infrastructure challenges sustainably.
“We are extremely pleased with this partnership, which provides long-term support from Endeavour and unique technology collaboration,” says Hervé Beuffe, CEO of Tiamat. “It marks the culmination of many years of hard work developing our breakthrough technology for power applications.
“Over the last year of testing, it became clear that our battery technology was the only one currently capable of managing the complex loading and durability requirements that Endeavour’s engineers were looking to solve.”
Supporting surging AI workloads
Current Uninterruptible Power Supplies (UPS) are struggling with AI workloads and require additional batteries and supercapacitors that are bulky and consume much-needed IT rack space.
To tackle this, Mickael Mauger, Director of Engineering leading Endeavour’s GridBlock power router division, explains: “Our energy router technology maximises Tiamat's power and cycling performance to handle demanding AI load profiles.
“This reduces capital and operating costs.”
As Endeavour continues to platform purpose-built solutions to support reliable and rapid growth, it is eager to also prioritise sustainability. Particularly as AI and cloud workloads expand – burning through more power and energy in order to run – companies like this are innovating in order to scale distributed energy systems, water and IT infrastructure in a more sustainable way.
