How AMD Plans to Enable AI Innovation in France with G42

The leading AI technology group announced a strategic investment in France in partnership with DataOne, Europe’s first gigascale AI hosting infrastructure data centre.
Working to establish one of France’s most powerful AI compute facilities, the strategic partnership enables G42 to have immediate market access and the opportunity to optimise infrastructure.
Spearheaded by Core42, a G42 company specialising in sovereign cloud and AI infrastructure, the initiative will establish a state-of-the-art AI data centre in Grenoble. It will be equipped with AMD GPUs and will empower enterprises, researchers and innovators with cutting-edge AI infrastructure.
The investment reinforces G42’s commitment to expanding global AI capabilities whilst also strengthening European technological prowess.
Likewise, in the wake of this announcement, AMD today announced the signing of a Letter of Intent (LOI) with the Commissariat à l'énergie atomique et aux énergies alternatives (CEA) of France to collaborate on the advanced technologies, component and system architectures that will shape the future of AI computing.
Powering the future of French AI
Core42 is integrating the latest AMD Instinct accelerator technologies with the aim of equipping French businesses, researchers and innovators with the compute necessary to develop and scale sophisticated AI models and applications.
Expected to be fully operational by mid 2025, the facility has come to represent a commitment by G42 to foster strategic partnerships within the European AI ecosystem to accelerate digital transformation.
These strategic arrangements also guarantee that France’s AI-driven enterprises have direct access to industry-leading AI infrastructure, which could further position the country as a centre for AI excellence.
Given that France has already taken bold strides in AI data centre innovation, G42 states it is proud to be contributing to the country’s development.
“By deploying AMD GPUs, we are not only strengthening Europe’s AI infrastructure but also enabling enterprises and researchers to accelerate innovation at scale,” shares Kiril Evtimov, Group CTO of G42 and CEO of Core42. “Our collaboration with local providers ensures seamless access to the computational power needed to drive the next wave of AI advancement in France and beyond.”
AMD Chair and CEO Lisa Su adds: “Our strategic collaboration with G42 will help energise the French AI ecosystem, providing the compute capacity needed to enable the local AI start-ups and AI pioneers who are driving state-of-the-art innovation and strengthening the French economy.
“Our work with G42 is the latest example of our commitment to combine open ecosystems with industry-leading AMD AI technologies to empower public institutions and private enterprises to harness the full potential of AI.”
AMD remains a committed data centre leader
G42’s investment in France is a testament to its mission of shaping the future of AI through strategic global partnerships and advanced infrastructure.
As demand for AI compute continues to surge, putting pressure on data centre operators worldwide, Core42 is providing a AI cloud offering that includes multiple AI accelerator options, thereby expanding their global footprint, strengthening AI accessibility and driving AI-powered advancements across Europe and beyond.
In addition, AMD brings extensive experience in engaging with the French AI startup ecosystem. AMD holds a strong commitment to fostering international collaborations that accelerate AI innovation, whilst also making AI more inclusive and sustainable.
With this in mind, its collaboration with CEA will also leverage the strengths of both organisations to push the boundaries on energy-efficient systems needed to support the world’s most compute-intensive AI workloads in essential industries like energy or healthcare.
Through this initiative, both organisations will focus on technological advancements on next-generation AI compute infrastructure. AMD and CEA also are planning a symposium on the future of AI compute in 2025 that will convene European stakeholders and global technology providers, startups, supercomputing centers, universities and policy makers to accelerate collaboration around state-of-the-art and emerging AI computing technologies.
“AI computing continues to drive innovation across industries, and international collaboration is critical to pushing the boundaries of what’s possible,” says Ralph Wittig, Corporate Fellow and Head of Research at AMD.
“We aim to bring cutting-edge AI research closer to real-world applications by advancing system architectures that meet the demands of tomorrow’s AI workloads, while growing the joint research and development opportunities between the US and France.”
Julie Galland, Director of the Technological Research division at CEA, adds: “By combining CEA’s research leadership with AMD’s cutting-edge technology, we aim to develop breakthrough solutions that will shape the future of AI computing in Europe and beyond.”
