Portugal Data Centre Association (PortugalDC) aims to foster innovation, enhance connectivity, promote sustainability, ensure security and nurture talent

Portugal has joined a host of countries boasting a data centre association.

The world's leading data centre associations support the data centre industry and its stakeholders, representing their interest and concerns. And behind a host of the world’s data centre companies are hard-working data centre associations which bring together professionals, companies, and experts involved in the design, construction, operation and management of the state-of-the-art facilities.

Associação Portuguesa de Centros de Dados, or Portugal Data Centre Association (PortugalDC) in English, launched this week and has been established with the aim to provide a clear insight into the current data centre environment across the nation as well as the association's core objectives, values, and key initiatives.

Fabiola Bordino, formerly Head of Sustainability, Marketing and Communication at Start Campus, has taken up the position of the association’s President. She is joined by Equinix’s Managing Director Carlos Paulino, who has joined the organisation in its foundation as Vice President.

“This association marks a significant milestone in our country's digital infrastructure,” Bordino said of her appointment. “Together, we'll advance innovation, connectivity, energy, sustainable development, data security and talent.

“I’m honoured to be part of this great association and to be at the forefront shaping the future of data centres in Portugal and Europe.”

Benefits of data centre associations

Data centre associations often play a vital role in promoting collaboration, sustainability and professionalism as well as advancing industry practices and addressing challenges faced in the industry, including the likes of energy efficiency, cybersecurity and emerging technologies.

Providing a platform for advocacy and innovation, they advocate for industry best practice in their domain and influence the likes of regulation and best practice with ideas that can be adopted elsewhere, shaping the future of the industry.
