Munters Acquires Geoclima, Manufacturer of Data Centre HVAC
Munters has signed an agreement to acquire Italian manufacturer of air- and water-cooled chillers, Geoclima. Geoclima’s chillers are used by data centres across the world, to reduce the risk of data centres shutting down due to overheating. Geoclima’s units require minimal maintenance, making them reliable and efficient data centre solutions.
Terms of the Munters deal have not been disclosed, but it will be fully financed through existing credit facilities and is expected to reach completion by late 2024.
Munters expands data centre cooling solutions with Geoclima acquisition
Carl Munters founded the company over 60 years ago and it has remained a company with innovation in its DNA.
“At Munters, we take pride in delivering on our promises, starting with an initial inquiry and culminating with fully operational cooling systems at a data centre,” said Michael Gantert, Former President of Munters Data Centers, in an exclusive interview with Data Centre magazine. “We stand behind our technologies and commitment to deliver the performance and support our customers need for their success.”
Munters’ engineering experience, design expertise, R&D capability, and flexible manufacturing offer the ability to customise solutions to meet the needs of its customers – everything from footprint constraints to resource (water and power) availability and many other building design considerations.
Munters specialises in advanced climate cooling solutions using a wide range of heat rejection technologies. As a supplier, Munters creates sustainable climate solutions for data centre operators worldwide. It offers efficient and sustainable solutions for customers in industries where controlling temperature and humidity is mission critical. Its solutions reduce customers’ climate and environmental impact through efficient resource consumption.
Geoclima has sales offices in Italy, Spain, the UK, Australia and the US, as well as manufacturing sites in Italy and Thailand. Founded in 1994, Geoclima offers a range of Turbocor compressor-powered chillers for data centres – including free-cooled and adiabatic systems.
The acquisition gives Munters access to chiller technology, which will be offered through the company’s Data Center Technologies (DCT) cooling portfolio.
Munters acquired Irish HVAC company EDPAC back in 2022, returning to the European data centre space after previously closing its EMEA data centre operations and manufacturing facility in Europe in 2019.
Munters and Geoclima to enhance energy-efficient data centre cooling solutions
Paolo Ferraris, Founder of Geoclima has led the company for 30 years. He will remain as Managing Director for the next 12 months, at least.
"We are delighted to welcome Geoclima to the Munters family,” he said. “This strategic acquisition allows us to accelerate our development of energy-efficient data centre cooling solutions and strengthens our global offering," says Klas Forsström, president and CEO of Munters.
“The integration of Geoclima’s technology and talent with Munters is truly exciting,” said Stefan Aspman, President of Munters DCT and Group Vice President of Munters Group. “Both companies share a similar DNA, focusing on energy-efficient solutions tailored to meet customer needs. Customer focus and innovation are at the core of both organisations, and with our combined team of talented and devoted individuals in heat transfer, refrigeration, engineering, and operations, the sky is the limit for what we can achieve together.”
