Digital Realty Announces the Expansion of ServiceFabric, With the Goal of More Seamlessly Connecting Data Centre Communities to Better Deploy AI and HPC

During a time of increased AI and high-performance compute (HPC) demand, data centre businesses are looking for new and innovative ways to expand their services.

Leading global data centre provider Digital Realty announces its expansion of ServiceFabric - the company’s service orchestration platform that aims to interconnect workflow participants, applications, clouds and ecosystems on its global data centre platform, PlatformDIGITAL.

More than 70 members have joined the directory and listed more than 100 services, including secure and direct connections to more than 200 global cloud on-ramps. The result is an ecosystem for seamless interconnection and collaboration for data centre companies.

Enabling optimised AI and HPC workloads

As businesses work to increasingly deploy private AI applications and HPC, the need for an open interconnection and orchestration platform is critical. These highly intensive workloads are ultimately driving increased demand for dense computing solutions, with customers requiring facilities and services that support both seamless deployment and maximise utilisation.

With this in mind, PlatformDIGITAL was chosen to be the home of many ground-breaking AI and HPC workloads, alongside ServiceFabric being designed with the needs of cutting-edge applications in mind.

Service Directory is a core component of the ServiceFabric product family that underpins Digital Realty’s vision for interconnecting global data communities on PlatformDIGITAL and enabling customers to tackle the challenges of Data Gravity. In particular, ServiceFabric Connect is the industry’s largest open fabric-of-fabrics, designed to support businesses transitioning to a more hybrid IT and data-centric architecture.

The offered ‘Click-to-Connect’ service enables customers to orchestrate and automate on-demand connections to the services they need, significantly streamlining workflows and removing manual configuration steps as a result.

With this service, customers can hope to gain controlled access to data centre resources and automate approval workflows for more seamless connectivity. Streamlining collaboration between partners and customers in this way ultimately works to create a unified experience for discovery and connection within the industry.

Acknowledging the growth of data in line with AI

Having announced the availability of high-density colocation services across PlatformDIGITAL in August 2023, Digital Realty has been successful in maintaining its position as one of the largest global providers of cloud, colocation and interconnection solutions.

These services work to help businesses overcome processing challenges associated with the ever-expanding demands of data, in addition to increased AI use. The company successfully anticipated that AI would disrupt IT infrastructure and has been working with early AI adopters for several years to enable them to harness the technology’s full potential.

Leading data centre companies also utilise the ServiceFabric Service Directory, including Console Connect, Colt Technology Services and Fortinet.

Chris Sharp, Chief Technology Officer at Digital Realty, says: “ServiceFabric is redefining the way customers and partners interact with our global data centre platform. By fostering an open and collaborative environment, we're empowering businesses to build and orchestrate their ideal solutions with unparalleled ease and efficiency.”

He adds: “Offering access to a dense and highly connected data community, ServiceFabric is poised to become the go-to platform for businesses seeking to build and manage their solutions in an open, secure, and efficient way. We are continuously evolving and expanding our platform to meet the ‘next data exchange’ and evolving traffic patterns driven by hybrid, multi-cloud, and AI-workload solutions.”
