Alibaba Cloud Expands Global Data Centre Network

Alibaba Cloud, the cloud computing arm of Alibaba Group, appears at number 15 in Data Centre Magazine’s Top 100 Data Centre Companies list. The company operates a global network of data centres supporting cloud infrastructure, AI and big data applications that serve business sectors worldwide.
Alibaba Cloud’s growing role in cloud infrastructure
Alibaba Cloud stands as a dominant cloud infrastructure provider, particularly in Asia but with expanding global reach.
It manages 87 availability zones over 29 regions. The company’s data centres underpin services from basic compute and storage to AI-enhanced analytics and real-time data processing.
These data centres form the foundation for enterprises to build, manage and scale applications on cloud-powered infrastructure.
Its infrastructure-as-a-service platform supports diverse workloads, providing businesses with the ability to deploy solutions with scalability and reliability. As digital transformation intensifies across industries, Alibaba Cloud’s data centre investments reflect the shift to cloud-native operations and data-centric architecture.
Strategic expansions in Latin America and Asia
In 2025, Alibaba Cloud expanded in Latin America with the launch of its first data centre in Mexico, marking its entry into an emerging cloud market. The data centre is designed to support local enterprises as they improve operational efficiency and embrace digital services.
Selina Yuan, President of Alibaba Cloud International, said: “We are not only bringing world-class cloud technology to support local businesses, but also building an inclusive and thriving ecosystem in Mexico together with our local partners, developers and customers to foster innovation, collaboration and sustainable growth across Latin America.”
This reflects a strategy focused on ecosystem-building alongside infrastructure growth.
Further investment included the opening of a second data centre in South Korea to enhance the availability and resilience of cloud services in a region with substantial AI and big data needs.
“Through the launch of this second data centre, Alibaba Cloud will provide customers with more resilient and adaptable cloud environments, ultimately fostering AI innovation across various sectors and expanding the digital ecosystem,” explained Yoon Yong-joon, Country Manager of South Korea, Alibaba Cloud Intelligence.
These expansions underline the company’s intention to establish regional hubs that support both local and international customers with cloud capabilities tailored to diverse business challenges.
Partnering on AI and hybrid cloud solutions
Partnerships form a core part of Alibaba Cloud’s strategy to support innovation. A notable collaboration with Nvidia focuses on accelerating AI development through cloud infrastructure capable of handling complex workloads and fast data processing.
This cooperation feeds into Alibaba Cloud’s offerings for industries that depend on cutting-edge AI models for automation, predictive analytics and intelligent services.
This indicates Alibaba Cloud’s commitment to hybrid cloud architectures, allowing enterprise clients flexibility to combine on-premise and cloud resources for optimised performance.
“Alibaba Cloud stands at the forefront of the AI innovation, co-evolving with our customers with full-stack AI and cloud solutions that support businesses anytime and anywhere,” Dr. Feifei Li, President of International Business and SVP of Alibaba Cloud Intelligence Group, said at its Apsara Conference 2025. “We are here to help partners and customers to design, launch and scale groundbreaking AI agents and applications, fueling the next generation of digital innovation and unlocking unprecedented value in the global marketplace.”
Alibaba Cloud continues to develop its portfolio of cloud and data centre services to meet requirements for performance, security and regional compliance.
Its inclusion at number 15 on Data Centre Magazine’s Top 100 list reflects its role in shaping the evolving infrastructure underpinning modern digital enterprises.
