Why atNorth is Betting Big on Nordic Expansion

atNorth, the leading Nordic high-density colocation and built-to-suit data centre provider, has confirmed plans to develop a 300MW data centre campus in Sollefteå Municipality, Sweden.
Located at Hamre Industrial Park in Långsele, the project will be built on a 50-hectare plot (Hamre 1) and is slated to be operational in the first half of 2028.
The Hamre Industrial Park is fully zoned and prepared for development, enabling an accelerated construction schedule and swift time-to-market as organisations scale AI-driven, high-performance computing workloads.
atNorth selected the site for its strategic location, strong grid capacity and proximity to renewable energy resources.
High-density, modular design
The campus will follow atNorth’s modular architecture to support data-intensive workloads and large-scale colocation, accommodating both built-to-suit projects and tailor-made data centre space.
As with all new atNorth developments, the company will actively pursue heat reuse partnerships to capture and redistribute excess heat for local benefit, aligning with its commitment to sustainability.
“We are very pleased that atNorth has chosen Hamre Industrial Park for this significant investment,” says Emelie Wrede, Mayor and Chair, Sollefteå Municipality. “This establishment confirms that Sollefteå offers the right conditions for large-scale, future-oriented industry.
"The development will strengthen the local economy, create skilled employment opportunities, and further position our municipality as an attractive destination for sustainable digital infrastructure."
atNorth CEO Eyjólfur Magnús Kristinsson highlights that the Sollefteå project balances surging high‑density demand with sustainable, scalable infrastructure.
He comments: “We face a critical point in time right now, where we must balance unprecedented growth in high density workloads with an increasingly urgent need for sustainable, scalable digital infrastructure.
“Our Sollefteå campus represents a significant milestone for the company and demonstrates our commitment to building data centre ecosystems that deliver both technical excellence and long-term value for local communities.”
Regional momentum
The announcement follows atNorth’s recent expansion across the Nordics, including two new data centre sites in Iceland and plans for an additional facility in Stockholm.
atNorth has also formed new colocation partnerships with Nokia, Crusoe and 6G AI Sweden AB, and signed a heat reuse agreement with Vestforbrænding, Denmark’s largest waste-to-energy company, to repurpose excess heat from its DEN01 data centre campus.
With sustainability at its core, atNorth's data centres run on renewable energy resources and support circular economy principles.
The Sollefteå campus cements atNorth’s Nordic expansion, delivering low‑carbon, high‑density capacity and local economic benefits ahead of an H1 2028 launch.
