AVAIO to Build a 64MW AI-Ready Data Centre Campus in Madrid

AVAIO Digital has confirmed plans to deliver its first data centre in Spain, unveiling the €650m (US$760m) Algete Data Hub in Madrid’s northern technology corridor.
The project has now reached a major development milestone, with power secured and entitlements in place to begin construction of a hyperscale facility designed to support both cloud and AI workloads.
The Madrid site represents AVAIO Digital’s entry into one of Europe’s fastest expanding data centre markets.
The company expects to create more than 500 jobs during the build phase and around 50 permanent roles when operations begin.
Mark McComiskey, CEO of AVAIO Digital, says: "Madrid is a leading European hub for cloud computing and AI development and we are delighted to partner with the City of Algete to make a significant investment in expanding the region's digital and energy infrastructure.
“Spain provides a unique opportunity for hyperscalers to rapidly expand their digital presence in close proximity to established data centre markets in a highly sustainable way."
Securing green power for growth
The facility, known as AVAIO Digital Scorpio, will be developed with a flexible architecture able to meet the demands of hyperscale clients.
The company has signed agreements with Iberdrola, Spain’s largest power generator and transmission provider, securing 56.3MW of clean power in addition to an initial 8MW interconnection.
Power delivery is expected to begin in 2028.
Connectivity has been a central focus for the site, which will link directly to Madrid’s Alcobendas and Alcala data centre clusters.
Its location will also provide access to Spain’s national fibre network and international connectivity through multiple subsea cable landing points along the Iberian coast.
Sustainable data centre design
The Algete Data Hub will be developed on an industrial site, ensuring the project minimises residential disruption while enabling regeneration of land with sustainable technologies.
Plans include intelligent building design, rainwater recapture, rooftop solar and an air-cooled system engineered for water efficiency.
Pedro Blanco, Project Manager in Spain for AVAIO Digital, says: "This project contributes to consolidating Madrid's northern datacentre axis and Algete's emerging position as a datacentre hub.
“AVAIO's sustainable design will allow for the re-development of an old industrial site in an environmentally friendly manner. We are very excited about this significant development milestone."
Expanding a global footprint
The Algete Data Hub is part of AVAIO Digital’s broader growth strategy across Europe and North America.
The company has already secured more than 2GW of power for hyperscale campuses in Northern California, Virginia, Arkansas and Mississippi.
Almost 450MW of this capacity is set to be available by 2027.
AVAIO Digital is positioning itself as a leader in next-generation data centre infrastructure, with a strategy built on behind-the-meter power generation, sustainability and scalable design principles.
The Madrid project marks its entry into Spain, a market that is increasingly attractive to hyperscalers seeking to expand their European presence.
By targeting both AI and cloud applications, AVAIO Digital is aligning its new campus with the technologies driving global demand for data infrastructure.
With power secured, connectivity planned and construction set to regenerate a former industrial site, the Algete Data Hub is expected to strengthen Madrid’s position as a European centre for digital services.
