L&T and NVIDIA's Data Centre Deal to Hyperscale India's AI

Construction giant Larsen & Toubro (L&T) has announced a venture under the IndiaAI Mission to build sovereign, scalable gigawatt-scale NVIDIA AI factory infrastructure.
The partnership integrates NVIDIA’s accelerated storage, GPUs, CPUs and networking with L&T’s engineering expertise to enable rapid, secure AI adoption.
The venture aims to deploy AI-ready datacentre infrastructure required to support large-scale workloads for global hyperscalers, cloud providers and domestic enterprises.
By establishing India as a strategic hub, the initiative provides the high-density computing platforms necessary for the next generation of digital transformation. The sovereign-by-design fabric ensures that critical data and AI workloads can be trained and deployed entirely within India.
Developing scalable gigawatt factories for demand
The venture plans to develop a gigawatt-scale AI datacentre factory, offering AI-ready capacity for high-density, next-generation workloads.
The model allows customers to expand their operations in India efficiently. Key deployments include scaling an NVIDIA GPU cluster at L&T’s Chennai datacentre to 30 MW within a 300-acre campus, alongside a new 40 MW datacentre currently under execution in Mumbai.
These facilities will deliver advanced AI services to hyperscalers and sectors such as finance, energy and public services. The standardised, enterprise-grade capabilities are designed to provide predictable performance and security, moving industrial use cases from the experimental phase into full production-scale deployment.
Enabling innovation through sovereign cloud agents
The venture will enable L&T and its group companies to deploy live AI agents on a sovereign cloud. This fosters a self-sustaining innovation hub, including frameworks like the "Lights-Out Factory" that uses NVIDIA Omniverse libraries to transform industrial operations.
Such deployments highlight the transition toward agentic AI within India’s digital public infrastructure. The L&T deal with NVIDIA is part of a broader effort to onshore essential chip technologies and reinforce leadership in semiconductor manufacturing while providing secure, localised production options.
The infrastructure buildout is optimised for accelerated computing, ensuring that India can serve domestic requirements and the growing global demand for high-performance AI services.
Investing in secure and sovereign foundations
S N Subrahmanyan, Chairman & Managing Director - L&T, said: “India’s enterprises are ready to move from AI pilots to production-scale deployment. The investment establishes the foundation – secure, scalable and sovereign infrastructure – required to power manufacturing, energy, financial services, healthcare and public services.
"With NVIDIA’s platforms and L&T’s execution strength, we are building infrastructure that will enable AI to deliver measurable economic impact.”
S N added that secure and sovereign infrastructure is essential for powering modern financial and healthcare services. This investment establishes the bedrock for India’s AI-driven growth, allowing for the disciplined development of the nation's digital public goods and private sector innovation.
Laying the foundation for world class systems
Jensen Huang, Founder and CEO of NVIDIA, said: “AI is driving the largest infrastructure buildout in human history – everyone will use it, every company will be powered by it and every country will build it.
"Prime Minister Modi has outlined a bold vision to democratise AI access across the Global South and position India as a global hub for digital infrastructure.
"Together with L&T – an 88-year-old engineering and nation-building leader – we are laying the foundation for world-class AI infrastructure that will power India’s growth and help realise the full vision of IndiaAI.”
Supporting the national IndiaAI Mission
The IndiaAI Mission is structured to establish a robust and inclusive AI ecosystem, featuring pillars such as the IndiaAI Compute Pillar, which provides high-end GPUs at affordable costs.
The L&T and NVIDIA venture directly supports that mission by building a scalable AI ecosystem via public-private partnerships. Other components of the mission include the IndiaAI Innovation Centre and the IndiaAI Datasets Platform, which streamline access to high-quality data.
By creating AI factories at a national scale, L&T and NVIDIA are advancing the vision of "Making AI in India and Making AI Work for India."
