Vantage Data Centers gains US$1.6bn from GIC and ADIA to expand its APAC platform, including a 300MW+ hyperscale campus in Johor, Malaysia

Vantage Data Centers (Vantage) confirms a US$1.6bn investment to accelerate its Asia-Pacific (APAC) platform.

The capital comes from an affiliate of GIC, a global institutional investor and a subsidiary of the Abu Dhabi Investment Authority (ADIA). Both organisations are existing backers of Vantage through their affiliates.

Alongside this funding, Vantage reveals it is entering the Malaysian market through the acquisition of Yondr Group’s (Yondr) 300MW+ hyperscale campus in Sedenak Tech Park, Johor.

The site is one of the largest of its kind in Southeast Asia and is part of the portfolio that DigitalBridge Group acquires through its investment vehicles. DigitalBridge remains one of Vantage’s largest investors.

The commitment highlights continued demand in APAC for digital infrastructure, particularly as AI workloads and cloud computing accelerate. The funds will be directed towards the Johor acquisition and further regional development.

"This significant investment marks a pivotal milestone in our APAC growth journey,” says Jeremy Deutsch, President of Vantage Data Centers, APAC.

“With the support of GIC and ADIA, we are positioned as one of the largest providers of sustainable AI and cloud digital infrastructure in the region. Adding the Johor campus to our portfolio will bring our APAC footprint to 1GW of capacity. This acquisition enables Vantage APAC to continue to deliver scale and speed for our customers."

“GIC and ADIA have been trusted, long-term partners and their continued support underscores confidence in Vantage’s ability to execute at scale in high-demand markets."

The deal, including the Johor acquisition, is set to close in the fourth quarter of 2025 subject to standard closing conditions.

Johor campus strengthens APAC portfolio

The Johor campus, to be named JHB1, covers almost 73 acres and will host more than 300MW of IT capacity across three facilities once fully developed.

Located in the Johor-Singapore Special Economic Zone, it benefits from proximity to Singapore, enabling dark fibre connectivity and access to one of Asia’s busiest data centre markets.

The campus also integrates sustainable technologies. These include direct-to-chip liquid cooling and a design aimed at EDGE certification, a global green building standard. The project is originally financed through a green loan, which Vantage has applied elsewhere in other regions.

Johor emerges as a strategic data centre location in Southeast Asia. It offers lower land and operational costs than neighbouring Singapore, alongside favourable government policies. Its position supports operators aiming to address growing spillover demand from Singapore’s constrained market.

By adding Johor to its platform, Vantage confirms it will have 1GW of combined operational and planned IT capacity in APAC. Its presence spans Australia, Malaysia, Japan, Taiwan and Hong Kong, reinforcing its position in the region’s digital infrastructure landscape.
