What Does the ISO 9001 Certification Mean for atNorth?

atNorth announces its certification to the ISO 9001:2015 framework, the globally recognised standard for quality management systems.
The Nordic colocation and built-to-suit data centre provider says the accreditation reflects its focus on customer service, compliance and continuous improvement across operations.
ISO 9001 is designed to enhance process discipline by addressing inefficiencies, reducing waste and improving decision-making.
It also outlines clear processes for managing complaints to ensure effective and timely resolution.
“Our attainment of the ISO 9001 reflects our ongoing commitment to delivering consistent, customer-focused service,” says Janne Sigurdsson, Chief Sustainability and Compliance Officer at atNorth.
“Our quality management system integrates seamlessly with our information security, environmental management and health and safety processes – creating a strong foundation of process discipline that drives continuous improvement across our operations.”
Embedding quality management
To meet ISO 9001 standards, atNorth demonstrated improvements in its quality management system. This included streamlining operational processes, optimising resource allocation and reinforcing risk management practices.
The company positions the certification as evidence of its alignment with regulatory requirements and adherence to its own Quality Policy.
The certification audit was conducted by BSI Group.
Árni Kristinsson, Managing Director for BSI Iceland, says: “A strong level of management commitment, leadership and engagement was very evident within the quality management system.
“There is clear evidence that the system is becoming embedded across the business, with effective integration of quality management practices into information security, environmental management and health and safety processes.”
atNorth adds ISO 9001 to a list of existing certifications, including ISO 45001 for health and safety, ISO 27001 for information security and ISO 14001 for environmental management.
Together, these accreditations cover critical areas of operational excellence for data centres handling high-density workloads.
Recognition across the data centre sector
The certification follows a year where atNorth has gained multiple awards for its projects and leadership.
The company received the Data Centre Design Project of the Year at the Data Center Review Awards and the Sustainable Data Center Project of the Year at the Danish Data Center Industry Awards. It also received ‘Highly Commended’ recognition in the ‘Project of the Year’ and ‘Sustainable Technology’ categories at the Global Tech & AI Awards.
The atNorth leadership team has also welcomed recent recognition within the industry.
- CEO Eyjólfur Magnús Kristinsson was listed in DataCentre Magazine’s Top 10 Data Centre Leaders in the UK & Europe 2025
- Chief Strategy and Marketing and Communications Officer Fredrik Jansson was shortlisted for the EMEA Digital Infrastructure Leader award at the Tech Capital Awards

Reinforcing trust in operations
atNorth says that its certification demonstrates how its quality management systems are aligned with broader sustainability, security and compliance frameworks.
The company highlights that internal compliance measures, coupled with external awards, position it as a trusted partner for enterprises and organisations that require high-performance colocation solutions.
By integrating ISO 9001 alongside its existing ISO standards, atNorth reinforces its approach to operational excellence and continuous improvement.
The company states that this combination provides assurance for customers relying on its facilities to meet demanding workloads while maintaining robust compliance and environmental standards.
