Docusign to launch an Australian data centre to meet calls for digital sovereignty, boosting compliance, performance and security for local agreement data

Docusign has announced plans to open a local data centre in Australia in the fourth quarter of 2025, marking a major step in supporting the country’s digital sovereignty and data security goals.

The move will enable Australian organisations to store and process their agreement data domestically, improving performance and ensuring compliance with local privacy laws and industry regulations.

The new facility will host Docusign’s Intelligent Agreement Management (IAM) platform, which serves both public and private sector clients. The company says the expansion will help accelerate digital transformation while keeping critical information onshore.

Allan Thygesen, CEO of Docusign

Allan Thygesen, CEO of Docusign, says: “Regulated Australian businesses and government agencies are asking for strong data protection and compliance as they increasingly move to digital platforms.

“Our local data centre will give customers greater confidence that their information is secure and managed according to local standards, while enabling them to access innovation and productivity gains faster than ever before.”

Addressing a costly business challenge

Inefficient agreement management is a recognised barrier to growth. Deloitte has identified poor agreement processes as a A$3.13tn (US$851.3bn) problem, with research showing that 77% of high-performing organisations credit mature, AI-enhanced contract management systems as a key factor in their success.

The Australian data centre is part of Docusign’s wider strategy to modernise how agreements are handled. Alongside the announcement, the company has introduced AI Contract Agents and a new integration with IDVerse to its IAM platform.

AI Contract Agents

Docusign says the AI Contract Agents are the industry’s first purpose-built AI tools for managing agreements across their entire lifecycle.

These agents can analyse contracts in seconds, identify risks and flag issues for human review. This automation reduces administrative bottlenecks, speeds up workflows and improves accuracy, freeing teams to focus on higher-value tasks.

Instead of contracts waiting in queues for manual processing, the AI agents provide rapid analysis, enabling organisations to act on opportunities faster while reducing compliance risks.

IDVerse integration

Docusign has also integrated IDVerse’s Digital ID service into its platform for the Australian and New Zealand markets. This enhancement brings trusted identity verification (IDV) directly into the digital agreement process, adding another layer of security for organisations across all industries.

Embedding IDV into agreement workflows allows businesses to verify signatories without disrupting the process, supporting regulatory requirements while maintaining user convenience.

From e-signatures to AI-powered contracting

Allan Thygesen highlights the company’s transformation over the past year:

“Last year Docusign made a major pivot from being an electronic signature company to launching a new AI contracting platform, Intelligent Agreement Management,” he explains. “Since then, IAM has become the fastest growing product in our company's history. With it we've created purpose-built AI that understands the language of agreements like nothing else in the market.

“It's a leap forward in business technology that helps organisations reclaim lost value by transforming agreements into strategic levers for growth, risk mitigation and smart decision making. Now with AI contract agents and IDVerse, we're taking that potential even further, bringing automation to the entire agreement management process.”

The Australian data centre will be a key part of this evolution, offering faster, more reliable access to Docusign services for local clients.

By combining domestic data hosting with advanced AI tools and secure identity verification, the company aims to strengthen its role as a trusted provider of intelligent agreement solutions in the region.

With demand for secure, compliant and efficient digital agreement processes growing, Docusign’s investment aligns with Australia’s national focus on protecting data sovereignty while enabling innovation.

The combination of local infrastructure and AI-driven automation positions the company to support organisations looking to modernise their agreement workflows without compromising on security or compliance.
