Pulsant is investing millions in a new Milton Keynes facility to provide high-density compute for AI workloads with low-latency access to London

Pulsant, a UK data centre and digital infrastructure provider, has announced the completion of a £10m (US$13.6m) investment in a new high-density data hall in Milton Keynes.

The facility is designed to support the rapid adoption of AI and advanced computing. The expansion strengthens Pulsant’s nationwide platformEDGE framework, meeting demand for high-performance, sovereign infrastructure outside London.

The 1.2MW infrastructure is purpose built for high-density computing tasks. These include AI, machine learning and accelerated workloads often associated with financial services, healthcare and biotech, IT and gaming.

The Milton Keynes site offers an alternative to London for UK businesses, including local tech firms and US companies seeking a UK foothold. It is located within the Oxford-Cambridge tech supercluster, home to 570,000 employees generating £135bn (US$184bn) in annual turnover.

With just two milliseconds’ latency to London Docklands and Slough, the site forms part of Pulsant’s national platform of 14 data centres linked by a 400Gb-capable network.

It opens access to more than 1,600 cloud services, network providers and business partners, providing instant connectivity for global traffic routing and access to international networks.

The launch comes as the UK government commits £500m (US$681m) to strengthening domestic AI capabilities.

Milton Keynes has emerged as a hub for digital innovation, with strong business networks and a thriving technology community.

AI-ready capacity for growing demand

Rob Coupland, CEO at Pulsant says: “The £10m expansion of our Milton Keynes data centre is another big investment in our digital platform to meet hunger for high density compute power.”

Rob adds: “With AI-ready capacity in short supply, bringing high performance, flexibility and choice to regional locations is critical.

“For organisations looking for ultra-low latency, international connectivity and UK sovereign compute power, Milton Keynes is a great option compared to constrained and costly London datacentres which lack the opportunity for expansion.

“Our unique platform gives local, national and international clients the flexibility to circumvent some of the risks associated with the London cluster, while maintaining high performance, resilience and connectivity.”

The hall is designed for workloads that require dense compute power in a secure and resilient environment.

AI, machine learning and accelerated workloads require servers operating at high utilisation with cooling and power systems capable of supporting intense electricity draw.

Pulsant’s 1.2MW expansion meets these needs while maintaining energy efficiency and continuity of service.

Connectivity and platformEDGE integration

Being part of the platformEDGE network gives clients low-latency access to London internet and cloud exchanges while remaining close to the Oxford-Cambridge tech corridor.

PlatformEDGE interconnects facilities and enables rapid scaling of compute and storage resources.

The Milton Keynes data centre provides direct access to global cloud services, network providers and business partners.

Its 400Gb-capable network ensures fast data transfer, supporting workloads such as AI inference, financial modelling and biotech simulations.

Rob says:  “High-density regional facilities allow organisations to maintain sovereignty over their compute resources while staying connected to international infrastructure.

“This is increasingly important for regulated industries and companies with sensitive data.”

Expanding high-density compute

Pulsant plans to roll out its high-density model to other regions as part of platformEDGE. The Milton Keynes facility reflects a broader strategy to support AI adoption and advanced computing workloads in locations that combine connectivity, capacity and resilience.

The site supports enterprise, cloud and hyperscale clients, offering flexible rack deployment, high-density server support and direct network connections.

By providing 1.2MW of high-density compute in a single hall, Pulsant meets the needs of organisations requiring concentrated power for AI, machine learning and other intensive workloads.

Rob concludes: “By bringing high-density compute capacity to Milton Keynes, we give organisations a choice.

“They can access performance, resilience and connectivity without the constraints of London, while tapping into the innovation ecosystem of the Oxford-Cambridge corridor.”

Pulsant’s investment highlights the growing importance of regional data centres capable of supporting AI and high-performance workloads.

The Milton Keynes facility combines strategic location, connectivity and high-density capacity, offering a clear alternative for organisations seeking UK sovereign infrastructure outside London.
