Cargill’s Plant-Based Cooling for UDI’s Data Centres
Ultrascale Digital Infrastructure has announced a new strategic partnership with Cargill, Incorporated, which will see Cargill’s bio-based NatureCool™ 2000 immersion cooling liquid and Ultrascale Digital Infrastructure’s patented immersion cooling data centre design reduce data centre energy use by over 50%. This will also eliminate the massive water waste and toxic chemicals currently associated with most traditional data centres, and support decarbonisation goals.
This first-of-its-kind, plant-based cooling solution is a sustainable step forward for the data centre sector, one which UDI and Cargill are proud to lead.
Cargill's NatureCool™ 2000: A plant-based, biodegradable coolant for safer and more efficient data centres
Cargill works from the heart of its supply chain to provide food, ingredients, agricultural solutions and industrial products to feed the world in a way that is safe, responsible and sustainable. Cargill partners with farmers and customers to source, grow and deliver products - today and for generations to come.
Ultrascale Digital Infrastructure (also known as UDI) was founded with one purpose, to ‘deliver the most advanced, sustainable and reliable data centre solutions adaptable for the Age of AI, without sacrificing the environment’.
We chose Ultrascale Digital Infrastructure for our Top 10: Data Centre Startups, based on its mission to revolutionise data centre cooling, addressing the urgent need for efficiency and sustainability.
Cargill’s NatureCool™ 2000 immersion cooling liquid is a biodegradable coolant made from renewable plant-based resources. It is purpose engineered to be compatible with a range of electronics, related materials and components, while exhibiting a high flash point, creating a higher level of fire safety compared to most synthetics.
Ultrascale Digital Infrastructure aims to transform the data centre landscape with its innovative attitude to the intense demands of power-guzzling AI microchips. Ultrascale’s patented immersion cooling technology can improve data centre performance through its waterless 52U rack design, which can cool 300 kilowatts per rack.
Now, data centres can operate efficiently and more affordably while using plant-based, renewable resources, vastly outperforming conventional IT air cooling systems.
Ultrascale Digital Infrastructure and Cargill are proud of their revolutionary data centre cooling with NatureCool™ 2000
Arnold Magcale, Founder and CEO of Ultrascale Digital Infrastructure said that the whole team was excited to work with Cargill’s diverse group of dedicated scientists.
“At Ultrascale, we’ve proven that liquid immersion cooling is the most high-performing, cost-efficient and sustainable solution for data centre operations, but incorporating Cargill’s NatureCool™ 2000 immersion cooling liquid with Ultrascale’s patent-pending cooling technology will transcend the industry to a higher level,” said Arnold. “We’re proud to partner with a trailblazing company that continues to innovate - as it builds on a nearly 160-year history of pioneering international success."
Javi McGuiggan, Global Power Systems Director for Cargill's Bioindustrial business, knows that Cargill is in a unique position to supply the world with value added, nature-derived chemistries, but it is through partnerships like the one with Ultrascale, as an expert in the data centre industry, that together they can truly bring solutions to life.
“Ultrascale has shown an extraordinary commitment to improving energy efficiency in data centres by adapting their technology as they incorporate our unique, new-to-market, plant-based fluid,” said Javi. “We are eager to showcase the results from this alliance to the data centre industry and prove that bio-based solutions are key in their path to success.”
