LiquidStack’s CDU-1MW offers Direct-to-Chip Liquid Cooling
LiquidStack has announced the arrival of its high-performance Coolant Distribution Unit, the CDU-1MW. The unit is compatible with commercial direct-to-chip (DTC) solutions and is suitable for Gen AI, large language models and HPC.
LiquidStack's new CDU will ease CDU supply constraints in the direct-to-chip liquid cooling segment. As data centre adoption of liquid cooling scales, the demand for standardised, DTC-optimised CDUs has increased.
CDU-1MW’s high-capacity cooling solution
Founded in 2012, LiquidStack started out as demand rose to cool high performance workloads in crypto. It then pivoted into data centre cooling in 2019. Now, LiquidStack is working to combat the challenges that arise with cooling. As demand for high performance compute increases, so does the need for innovative and effective solutions.
The company has scaled up and implemented liquid cooling in data centres as large as 120MW and has a comprehensive range of data centre liquid cooling solutions tailored for high-compute workloads like AI, LLM training and simulations.
LiquidStack’s innovative liquid cooling solutions are designed to effectively cool high-performance workloads while decreasing energy consumption. The universal CDU-1MW is ETL and CE certified, as well as full-load tested by a third party. It caters to hyperscalers, colocation services companies, and large-scale enterprises seeking to implement DTC solutions as they shift to hybrid cooling. The product’s superior thermal management, enhanced performance and interoperability ensure seamless integration, energy efficiency and reduced operational costs.
Key features of the CDU-1MW include:
- Up to 1,350kW cooling capacity
- Supportive of the latest AI chips and servers
- Offers long-term reliability in high-performance environments
- Programmable logic controller (PLC) with intuitive controls and monitoring tools for easy management.
The CDU-1MW was developed with direct engagement from the world’s largest data centres and chip manufacturers, in the USA.
LiquidStack's leadership in liquid cooling
LiquidStack’s Global Director of Product Management, Nick Schweissguth, said that the company’s exclusive commitment to liquid cooling ensures that LiquidStack’s products incorporate the latest advancements and best practices in cooling technology.
“The CDU-1MW is built to withstand the rigours of the highest performance environments, enabling large-scale data centre operators to de-risk AI deployments via rapid integration to existing direct-to-chip systems,” Nick said.
CEO Joe Capes discussed LiquidStack’s leadership.
"With a singular focus on liquid cooling, we deliver unparalleled expertise and innovation, providing the most advanced solutions, such as the CDU-1MW, for data centres and high-performance computing environments,” said Joe. “Our company has been designing, manufacturing and servicing complex liquid to liquid heat exchange systems at scale for over a decade. With the ability to deliver products anywhere in the world from our US-based manufacturing facility, and our capability to provide mission-critical service response times in all major global markets, LiquidStack has quickly taken a leadership position in the direct-to-chip liquid cooling market.”
Joe previously spoke with Data Centre magazine to discuss the role of two-phase immersion liquid cooling in the data centre of the future.
“Right now, there's a tremendous amount of investment happening in the cloud services and hyperscale communities into liquid cooling,” he said. “The entire data centre and IT ecosystem is ramping up around two-phase immersion cooling.”
