Schneider Electric’s VP Innovation & Data Center Steven Carlini & Andres Vasquez, Global Segment Director, on the hurdles of the widespread adoption of 5G

In the penultimate panel of Cloud & 5G LIVE in October, Steven Carlini, Vice President of Innovation and Data Center and Andres Vasquez, Global Segment Director, both of Schneider Electric, joined forces to discuss the multifaceted landscape of 5G technology.

Harnessing their joint experience in the telecommunications, data centre, IT and technology industries, the duo delved into the challenges encountered thus far, including limited adoption, while also exploring the future of low-latency connectivity.

Promises and Failures of 5G with Steven Carlini, Vice President of Innovation and Data Center and Andres Vasquez, Global Segment Director at Schneider Electric

The panel highlighted successful use cases, identified the elusive 'killer app,' and drew lessons from the industry's triumphs and hurdles in the realm of 5G.

Navigating the complexities and untapped potentials of the transformative technology that is 5G, Carlini said: “We're seeing some very, very innovative deployments. A lot of proof of concept was done in stadiums. If you have ever been in a stadium that had 5G, it's just amazing. You could do instant replays from 20 different angles.”

But, as Vasquez added: “There are several use cases we have fully documented and the challenges are there, but I believe that it is a matter of time in order to enable all these use cases in the market across different industries.”

Throughout their detailed discussion, hosted and directed by Cloud & 5G LIVE host Neil Perry, Carlini and Vasquez championed how far 5G technology has come and what it enables, as well as some of its problematic tendencies and concerns about its necessity, all while emphasising the need for compelling applications to drive 5G adoption.

“The challenge that we see is that most of the different use cases for these machine-to-machine direct interactions totally depend on the devices that we want to connect,” Carlini also said during the panel.
