In a bid to expand its footprint across Europe, UK data centre provider Virtus Data Centres has appointed Michael Dada as managing director for VIRTUS Germany.

With a wealth of experience in data centre design, Michael Dada will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of the business in Germany, including expansions, sales, data centres design, construction and operations. It reinforces the company’s commitment to expanding across Europe in the wake of announcing further data centre facility expansions across Germany.

VIRTUS Data Centres (VIRTUS), an award-winning pure-play data centre owner-operator and part of the ST Telemedia Global Data Centres Group.

ESG emphasis throughout enterprise operations

“This strategic move reinforces VIRTUS’ commitment to expanding its footprint across Europe following the recent announcements of its Wustermark Data Centre Campus and the VIRTUS Marienpark Campus expansion,” the company said on LinkedIn.

Dada joined Virtus Data Centres in January 2024, bringing a wealth of experience and expertise to his new role. He aims to continue building the company’s position as a leading data centre operator, laying emphasis on high environmental, social and governance (ESG) standards without compromising the resilience of their operations.

Prior to joining Virtus, Dada worked as the head of data centre solutions for global real estate services company CBRE in the UK and Germany. Here, he successfully established and expanded the company’s data centre consultancy services in Germany. He holds a Master’s degree in Geography from the University of Münster and an MBA from the University of Applied Sciences in Biberach.

His new role highlights Virtus Data Centres’ plans to grow and commit to delivering cutting-edge data centres solutions. These solutions will be designed to meet the ever-growing demands of data processing and AI and computing needs.

With an emphasis on state-of-the-art infrastructure, VIRTUS continues to lead in providing robust, scalable, and sustainable data centres that cater to the evolving needs of businesses and industries reliant on powerful computing capabilities.

Speaking on his appointment, Dada says: “It’s a really exciting time to be joining VIRTUS as we embark on this journey of growth and expansion in Europe. My focus is on ensuring VIRTUS remains at the forefront of the industry, delivering sustainable and resilient data centre solutions.

“Together, we will continue to raise the bar in terms of scale, sustainability, and operational excellence.”

Handling continued industry growth

The need for data centres continues to grow at a phenomenal pace, with research reporting that every person on Earth is creating 1.7 MB of new information every second. Likewise, the data centre industry already accounts for roughly 2% of global greenhouse gas emissions and is only expected to grow.

Given global demand for energy as a result of new technologies like AI, data centre companies are seeking to take notable measures to ensure that their operations are more sustainable

“We are pleased to welcome Michael to VIRTUS as the Managing Director for Germany. His experience and dedication to excellence align perfectly with VIRTUS' mission to provide cutting-edge data centre solutions across Europe,” says Neil Cresswell, CEO for VIRTUS.

“Michael's leadership will play a pivotal role as we strengthen our presence across the territory. The continued growth of AI, predicted to triple that of cloud growth, opens up exciting opportunities to further push the boundaries of innovation and redefine what's possible in the data centre industry.

“Our commitment to excellence and sustainability remains at the core of what we do.”
