Who is Ryan Mallory, the New CEO of Flexential?

Flexential has appointed Ryan Mallory, its current President and Chief Operating Officer, as CEO with immediate effect.
He succeeds Chris Downie, who steps down after nine years in the role. The appointment comes as the company continues to expand capacity, scale interconnection and respond to demand for AI-ready digital infrastructure.
Ryan joined Flexential in June 2020 as Chief Operating Officer before being promoted to President and COO in May 2025. With more than 25 years of experience in high-growth technology environments, he now takes on leadership of the company during a period of record demand for data centre capacity.
“We've built a strong foundation and a vision for the future, and I intend to lead with the same focus and discipline that got us here,” says Ryan.
“I'm confident in where the company is headed because of our people and the trust we've earned with customers. Demand for data centre capacity has never been higher and we've demonstrated our ability to continue delivering even in the toughest environments. This is an important moment for the industry. We're ready for it.”
Leadership change for the AI era
Flexential provides secure and scalable data centre solutions across the US. The company highlights that this leadership transition reflects long-term succession planning, ensuring stability as it scales to meet customer requirements.
The move positions Flexential to expand services in response to the rapid growth of AI and hyperscale computing. Both trends are driving higher power needs, stricter efficiency requirements and new interconnection demands across the industry.
Demand for data centre capacity has never been higher and we've demonstrated our ability to continue delivering even in the toughest environments.
As CEO, Ryan is tasked with guiding the company through these pressures while ensuring continuity of delivery and growth. His previous leadership roles and progression within Flexential underline the company’s focus on maintaining consistency for customers and partners.
Chris Downie steps down after nine years
Chris Downie joined Flexential in September 2016 and led the business through a period of growth and transformation. Under his tenure, the company expanded its national data centre platform, scaled interconnection capabilities and strengthened relationships with enterprise customers and capital partners.
Reflecting on his time leading the company, Chris says: “Leading Flexential has been one of the greatest privileges of my career. Over the past nine years, we've made pivotal decisions, overcome challenges, and created a stronger, more resilient company together.
“The commitment and camaraderie of this team have been central to everything we've achieved and will continue to guide Flexential's success. I have full confidence that Ryan's leadership will position the company for even greater accomplishments in the years ahead.”
Board backs Mallory’s appointment
The Flexential Board highlights both the impact of Chris’s leadership and the importance of Ryan’s new role.
In a statement, the Board says: “We want to thank Chris for his outstanding contributions and the lasting impact he has made on Flexential. We look forward to our continued partnership with Ryan, whose vision and proven leadership make him the right person to guide Flexential into its next phase of growth.”
As Flexential manages power constraints and rising AI-driven workloads, the appointment of Ryan Mallory provides continuity and positions the company to expand interconnection and data centre capacity in the years ahead.
