This Week's Top 5 Stories in the Data Centre Industry

The world trade markets have been rocked by President Trump’s announcement that the US would be imposing strict tariffs at a minimum of 10% on key markets like Europe, the People’s Republic of China, India, Vietnam and South Korea.
Branded as ‘Liberation Day’, President Trump's administration enforces a 10% baseline tariff on US imports, with the EU and China facing higher rates. Other nations are facing rates as high as 50%, with the rating system based on the country’s existing trade barriers with the US.
Making his speech from the White House’s Rose Garden, Trump said 2 April 2025 is “one of the most important days in American history,” adding that “our country and its taxpayers have been ripped off for more than 50 years, but it is not going to happen any more.
“It’s our declaration of economic independence. For years, hard-working American citizens were forced to sit on the sidelines as other nations got rich and powerful, much of it at our expense, but now it’s our turn to prosper.
“This will be, indeed, the golden age of America. It’s coming back and we’re going to come back very strongly.”

As it continues to scale its business, atNorth’s report outlines how its evolving sustainability strategy will be built around boundaries defined by the Stockholm Resilience Centre.

As the data centre industry across Europe continues to grow, the digital infrastructure arm of DAMAC Group seeks to create new jobs and promote economic development across the region.
The company also remains eager to deliver on its vision, which is to supply next-generation digital infrastructure that is sustainable.

The company, which is a subsidiary of NTT, will be providing end-to-end technology services to UPS, which include custom data centre colocation, digital transformation and cloud migration.
Both companies will be embarking in a 10 year strategic partnership, with NTT Data supporting UPS as it continues to modernise its IT infrastructure and data centres. It will also be providing AI and cloud services to drive business innovation, as UPS confronts the fast-changing logistics and delivery sector.
“We are honoured to be selected by UPS as a strategic partner on their transformation journey as they operationalise their 'data centre of the future' vision, deliver the next generation IT infrastructure and accelerate digital product development,” says Abhijit Dubey, President & CEO at NTT DATA.
The deal sees Pulsant, a leading edge infrastructure provider in the UK, acquiring two data centres from European technology solutions and services provider SCC.
The SCC data centres are in Birmingham and Fareham and hope to ensure greater opportunities of growth and long-term stability for Pulsant. Likewise, the acquisition also aims to strengthen Pulsant’s unique edge infrastructure, platformEDGE, marking the next phase in its geographical expansion.
Pulsant is excited to grow its network of 12 data centres across the UK, with the company’s CEO Rob Coupland saying: “With the addition of two new data centres, we’ve expanded our UK coverage, strengthening our presence near key economic hubs that have traditionally been underserved in terms of digital infrastructure – particularly Birmingham, the UK’s second city.
“This will enable more businesses to benefit from Pulsant’s unique network of data centres and platformEDGE to reach new markets and grow their organisations. We’re excited to welcome and support the high-quality client base transitioning to Pulsant and look forward to fostering their continued growth.”
