Aligned Data Centres break ground on new hyperscale project
Aligned Data Centres announces that it has officially broken ground on its new data centre campus in Hillsboro, Oregon.
This campus, which is master-planned for two new buildings, marks the company’s entry into the Pacific Northwest. The location of Hillsboro offers a business-friendly environment which, according to the company, can provide affordable power and renewable energy options. In addition, it can offer greater connectivity to major tech hubs like Los Angeles, Seattle and Silicon Valley - as well as proximity to international subsea cable networks.
In anticipation of this growth, the company said on LinkedIn: “We look forward to supporting hyperscale and large enterprise demand in this growing market.”
Constructing an adaptive data centre
Aligned Data Centers is a leading technology infrastructure company that works to offer innovative, sustainable and adaptive Scale Data Centers and Build-to-Scale solutions for global hyperscale and enterprise customers across the Americas.
Founded in 2013, Aligned Energy is the first company to offer a data centre delivery model based on securing and expanding capacity as needed, so that customers could pay only for the power they used. Aligned also provided engineering expertise and deployed its proprietary, modular heat removal systems for data centres and commercial buildings, enabling customers to expand on demand without having to reconfigure existing infrastructure or requiring large CapEx investments.
- 27.02 acres
- 12x 6MW data halls
- 100% uptime
The company has master-planned for two new buildings, with the initial data centre at the Hillsboro campus expected to offer 72MW of critical capacity. The second building is currently being planned for 36MW.
The new campus will have access to abundant power, with 120MW of utility capacity and utility rates at a fraction of the cost to comparable data centre markets across the West Coast of the US. Ultimately, this will lower customers’ total cost of ownership.
In building in Oregon, the state’s Enterprise Zone programme can offer property tax abatement to data centres for up to five years that bring new facilities, equipment and employment to the region, according to the company.
Oregon’s Enterprise Zone program offers property tax abatement to data centres for up to five years that bring new facilities, equipment, and employment to the region. Sponsored by city, port, country or tribal governments, an enterprise zone typically serves as a focal point for local development efforts.
In Oregon alone, there are currently 74 enterprise zones that aim to create better opportunities for businesses and employment: 56 rural and 18 urban. It will be interesting to see how Aligned Data Centre’s new data centres can benefit its community, whether it be through creating new jobs or providing more renewable energy for the grid.
